PUBLISHER’S NOTES
Fall is in the air, and Tampa Bay is giving us plenty of reasons to get out, explore and celebrate the season! Along the Riverwalk, Pendry Tampa is transforming the skyline, becoming a striking focal point as you enter downtown. With its opening scheduled in 2027, this highly anticipated development is another exciting addition to our ever-evolving city. Looking for a little holiday magic? Orlando World Center Marriott delivers family fun with water slides, movie nights, delicious dining and its festive Twelve Nights of Wonder, December 20–31. It’s never too early to plan a memorable holiday escape! This is our Home & Design issue, and we’re showcasing three remarkable condominium transformations. At The Residences at The St. Regis Longboat Key, Crespo Design Group creates a serene second home with soft creams, blues and a beautiful connection to the outdoors. Steven Anthony Luxury Homes takes a Vinoy condominium down to the studs, reimagining it as a modern penthouse with spectacular waterfront and downtown St. Petersburg views. Meanwhile, HLM Designs transforms a 1975 condominium into a personalized retreat inspired by European style. Each residence proves that thoughtful design can completely redefine a space. We’re also celebrating two Tampa Bay icons. Tampa Theatre marks its 100th anniversary with a tribute to its storied past and completed renovations, while Oystercatchers celebrates 40 years with a new menu and a memorable 10-course dinner. For a taste of Spain, stop by Ceviche at International Plaza for a fresh take on tapas and Spanish dining. In METROLife, meet Alicia Schulhof, president of Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital and chair of Tampa Bay’s Go Red for Women campaign, whose commitment to family and health advocacy inspires her leadership. Finally, METROScene highlights three charitable events making a difference across our community. We hope you’ll join us at an upcoming gala and help support the organizations enriching lives throughout Tampa Bay. Cheers,

Tampa Theatre Celebrates 100 Years
Big gathering of patrons, employees, volunteers and city officials to celebrate Tampa Theatre’s 100th Anniversary
A century to the day after first opening its doors to the public, Tampa’s majestic movie palace welcomed guests for an evening honoring the landmark’s history, its community and the next chapter in its story. Recently, on October 15, 2026, Tampa Theatre celebrated a century of cinematic magic with a birthday party 100 years in the making. Presented by Urban E Recycling, the celebration began beneath the Theatre’s iconic marquee, where guests enjoyed live music and swing dancing with The Jazz Phools. Inside, the festivities continued with remarks from Theatre leadership and Mayor Jane Castor before the evening’s centerpiece: a screening of Buster Keaton’s 1924 silent comedy Sherlock Jr., accompanied by the Paragon Ragtime Orchestra and Tampa Theatre’s Mighty Wurlitzer Theatre Organ. The program also revisited a piece of the Theatre’s original 1926 opening-night entertainment with Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture, this time with

a modern projection mapping finale. Built in 1926, Tampa Theatre is one of America’s best-preserved movie palaces. Its survival is a testament to the community that rallied to save the building 50 years ago and has continued to support its role as a nonprofit film and cultural center ever since. “Given the rich history of this theatre and of downtown Tampa, we had to celebrate this architectural marvel turning 100,” said George Levesque, Tampa
Theatre’s President & CEO. “In the 1970s, it seemed far more likely to be bulldozed than saved, yet here it stands.” The birthday also marked a milestone in the Theatre’s Second Century Campaign, a $30 million initiative to preserve and enhance the historic building for generations to come. The celebration followed the reopening of the restored Historic Duncan Auditorium and launched what will be a yearlong commemoration of the Theatre’s centennial.

METRO: What motivated you to step into the role of Tampa Bay Go Red for Women Chair? Schulhof: As a working mom of four, I know how easily women put themselves last to care for everyone else. Heart disease affects so many lives, yet women often miss the early warning signs. I wanted to use my voice to amplify the American Heart Association’s mission, driving awareness and inspiring women in our community to take charge of their own health. METRO: What is the most critical takeaway for everyday heart health? Schulhof: Prevention matters every day, not just when something feels wrong. Know your numbers, listen to your body, stay active, manage stress and talk openly with your doctor. For women, it is vital never to ignore symptoms or assume heart disease only happens to someone else. Awareness and early action makes all the difference.

METRO: How has your work in healthcare shaped your view of well-being? Alicia Schulhof: It has reinforced that health is about caring for the whole person—not just treating illness. Physical health, emotional well-being, family support and access to care all interconnect. Health is personal, and small, consistent choices make a lasting impact.
METRO: With a demanding career, how do you find personal balance? Schulhof: It takes real intention. I start early to fit in a workout, brief meditation and a quiet cup of coffee before the day unfolds. As an introvert, dedicated quiet time outdoors, reading or traveling helps me recharge. Above all, spending quality time with my family resets my focus and keeps me grounded in what matters most. METRO: What long-term impact do you hope the American Heart Association achieves? Dr. Ron O’Neal Smiles, Laughter and Heart For Dr. Ron O’Neal, dentistry is serious business, but that doesn’t mean there can’t be a few laughs along the way. Known for his compassionate patient care and quick wit, this family dentist has spent more than 20 years helping Tampa Bay residents smile with confidence. A third-generation Floridian born in Winter Haven, O’Neal jokes that Florida is “a sunny place for shady people.” His humor continues when discussing the University of Florida, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in psychology and Doctor of Dental Medicine degree, affectionately calling it “the Harvard of the South.” Behind the punchlines is a dentist guided by a simple mantra: “Imagine it was you!” His philosophy centers on empathy, trust and doing what is best for every patient. Today, O’Neal serves patients exclusively at his South Tampa office. His sense of humor even earned him an unexpected distinction when a Google search revealed he was considered Tampa’s funniest dentist. When he jokingly suggested rebranding himself as “South Tampa’s funniest dentist,” his marketing team worried the public might not get the joke. His response? “Isn’t GEN-POP a term for prisoners?” O’Neal is equally passionate about giving back. A former Marine, he supports charitable organizations and serves on nonprofit boards, believing in leaving the world a little better than he found it. He also credits his dedicated team as the heart of his practice, saying that without them, he would be “a ship without a sail.” One memorable career highlight was

being honored by PARC alongside legendary basketball coach Dick Vitale. O’Neil admits meeting the sports icon and getting his autograph on a basketball may have been even more exciting than the award itself. For O’Neal, the greatest reward is combining exceptional dentistry with meaningful community impact. The
laughter may be part of his signature, but his commitment to compassionate care is no joke. The Family Dentist 3733 W. Neptune St. Tampa, FL 33629 813.253.5303 www.tampabayfamilydentist.com
Leaders of Impact Description: Every year, community leaders across the country step up to join the Leaders of Impact campaign and advance the mission of the American Heart Association. During this seven-week competition, nominees engage their networks to raise critical funds, educate their communities about heart health and inspire meaningful action.
Through support for scientific research, CPR education and equitable health initiatives, Leaders of Impact nominees help drive lifesaving change where it matters most. At the end of the campaign, the nominee who creates the greatest impact and raises the most funds locally will be named the Tampa Bay Leaders of Impact Winner.

I’m participating in Leaders of Impact because surviving a near-fatal heart attack one year ago showed me how little I knew about heart disease until it became personal. Like many people, I assumed it was something that happened to someone else. My experience changed that perspective completely and gave me a renewed appreciation for the importance of prevention, awareness, and knowing the warning signs. I want to use my story to encourage others to take their heart health seriously, ask questions, and be proactive before a crisis forces them to. If sharing my journey can inspire even one person to make their health a priority, then I know it can make a meaningful difference.
I’m participating in Leaders of Impact because I believe every person should have the knowledge and tools to save a life. As a cardiologist, I’ve seen firsthand the impact that prevention, education, and early intervention can have on outcomes for patients and families. I am especially passionate about heart health in sports, CPR education, and expanding access to AEDs in our communities. Too often, cardiac emergencies happen without warning, and the actions taken in the first few minutes can make all the difference. Through Leaders of Impact, I hope to help raise awareness, empower people with lifesaving knowledge, and build healthier, safer communities both on and off the field.
Mark Amox
Chief Executive Officer HCA Florida Blake Hospital As a healthcare leader, I’m participating in Leaders of Impact because I believe our responsibility extends beyond treating heart disease to helping prevent it. Throughout my career, I’ve seen the toll cardiovascular disease can take on patients, families, and communities, but I’ve also seen the difference that education, research, and prevention efforts can make. After many years of partnering with the American Heart Association, I remain inspired by its commitment to improving heart health and advancing lifesaving innovation. I’m proud to support a mission that brings people together around a common goal: expanding awareness, improving outcomes, and creating healthier futures for patients and families across our region.

A Refined Coastal Retreat By Ronda M. Parag Photography: Nicholas Ferris Photography, LLC
A
t The Residences at The St. Regis Longboat Key, the beauty of the Gulf of Mexico becomes an essential part of the interior design. For this approximately 5,000-square-foot residence, Enrique Crespo, principal of Crespo Design Group, envisioned a sophisticated coastal retreat that pairs contemporary elegance with the comfort of a home designed to be lived in and enjoyed. Floor-to-ceiling windows frame sweeping waterfront views, while expansive terraces create a seamless connection between indoors and out. Designed as a second home for a celebrated neurosurgeon and his family, the four-bedroom, four-and-a-half-bath residence offers an inviting escape from their primary home, which Crespo also designed. With two grown children traveling from the North to visit, the residence needed to accommodate quiet relaxation as well as memorable family gatherings. “When you design a second home for clients you already know, you have a deeper understanding of how they live and what makes them comfortable,” says Crespo. “We wanted this residence to feel distinctly coastal and luxurious, but never formal or intimidating. It needed to be a place where the family could unwind, entertain and enjoy being together.” Throughout the home, a palette of soft neutrals, layered textures and carefully selected materials establishes continuity between the living areas and private suites. Custom furnishings, bespoke millwork and sculptural lighting introduce dimension and personality, while the restrained palette allows the Gulf views to remain the focal point. The result balances the architectural presence of The St. Regis with the relaxed sensibility of waterfront living. The living room exemplifies this relationship between refined interiors and the natural surroundings. Pocketing glass doors open the space to the expansive terrace, dissolving the boundary between inside and out. Neutral furnishings provide an understated foundation, while thoughtful accents, including magenta florals repeated indoors and on the terrace, create a subtle visual connection. Whether relaxing or gathering for dinner, the setting makes the most of the panoramic waterfront views.

“Indoor-outdoor living is such an important part of the Florida lifestyle, particularly in a home with views like these,” Crespo says. “We wanted the transition to feel effortless, so the living room and terrace function as one continuous space. You are always aware of the water, the light and the beauty surrounding you.” In the primary suite, a calming coastal palette meets expressive design details. Statement wallpaper introduces pattern and personality, while sculptural lighting adds an artistic touch. Tailored upholstery, custom built-ins and comfortable seating create a layered environment that feels luxurious without sacrificing livability. Floor-to-ceiling glazing keeps the surrounding landscape in view, allowing the scenery to become part of the room's composition. “The primary bedroom should feel like a retreat, but it should also be comfortable and inviting,” Crespo explains. “We paired distinctive elements, such as the wallpaper and lighting, with soft textures and furnishings that invite you to settle in. Luxury should enhance the experience of living in a space, not make you afraid to enjoy it.”

HOME+DESIGN AT HOME
Functionality was equally important. A dedicated work nook provides space for productivity, while a private balcony offers a welcome change of scenery. The secondary bedrooms continue the contemporary coastal aesthetic through distinctive wall treatments and tailored furnishings, providing visiting family members with comfortable, private retreats. For Crespo, the success of the project lies in balancing considered details with an effortless overall feeling. Custom furnishings, carefully placed lighting and refined finishes distinguish the residence without competing with its architecture or setting. “At the end of the day, a beautiful home has to work for the people who live in it,” he says. “The details matter, but they should support how a family uses the space. Our goal is to create interiors that feel personal and timeless while making everyday living easier.” At this Gulf-front retreat, that philosophy comes to life in a home that celebrates the best of coastal Florida living. Sophisticated yet welcoming, thoughtfully detailed yet wonderfully relaxed, the residence offers a sanctuary where family gatherings feel effortless and luxury is measured not only in craftsmanship, but in how beautifully a home is experienced. Living Above the Line Inside a Modern Vinoy Penthouse Retreat By Ronda M. Parag Photography: Tony Sica Photography
S
oaring above the historic waterfront in St. Petersburg’s coveted Vinoy district, a 5,395-total-square-foot penthouse residence redefines high-rise luxury through seamless space planning, sculptural architectural features and uncompromising craftsmanship. The complete remodel of the three-bedroom, three-and-a-half-bath home, brought down to the studs, was created by the luxury designbuild firm Steven Anthony Luxury Homes. The home was envisioned to match its breathtaking surroundings while forging its own distinctive architectural identity overlooking Tampa Bay, the marina and downtown St. Petersburg. From the outset, the project focused on establishing an uninterrupted connection between the expansive living spaces and the surrounding coastal landscape. Rather than segmenting the substantial square footage into numerous smaller rooms, the team prioritized generous proportions and continuous flow to maximize the scale of the residence. “Our vision was to create a residence every bit as extraordinary as its surroundings,” shares Steven Anthony, President of Steven Anthony Luxury Homes. “With panoramic views of Tampa Bay, the marina, and downtown St. Petersburg, we had an incredible starting point. We wanted the interiors to complement that setting while establishing a distinctive architectural identity. As the project evolved, our focus became creating a sense of openness and continuity, allowing the scale of the penthouse and its connection to the waterfront to take center stage.” Understanding how the homeowners host and navigate their daily lives served as the blueprint for every custom detail. At the center of the residence sits a grand kitchen anchored by custom AlliKriste’ cabinetry, quartzite countertops and highperformance culinary appliances. Recognizing the importance of both entertaining and effortless daily living, a separate, fully equipped scullery was built behind the scenes to handle food prep out of sight, keeping the main kitchen pristine during gatherings. “We begin by understanding how our clients want to live, not simply how they want their home to look,” explains Monica Angel, Chief Executive Officer of Steven Anthony Luxury Homes. “Here, entertaining and everyday comfort were equally

important. The massive kitchen is designed as a welcoming gathering place, while a separate scullery handles the preparation and practical work. It is a thoughtful arrangement that lets the homeowners enjoy both the beauty of the space and the ease of hosting.” Architectural softness balances the home’s contemporary lines, introduced through curved walls, soft columns, a dramatic floor-to-ceiling wine display and a dedicated custom cocktail bar. Transforming an existing highrise penthouse inside an established building required meticulous technical execution, particularly when installing heavy natural stones such as dolomite and quartzite alongside complex plasterwork. “Transforming an existing penthouse to this level of customization requires a different kind of problem-solving than building from the ground up,” recalls Steven Anthony. “We had to work within the established structure, coordinate building access and requirements and integrate intricate finishes with precision. Executing the curved architectural elements and installing natural stones demanded especially close coordination among our construction managers and specialty trade partners.” Among the penthouse’s most defining architectural moments are its custom fireplaces, which anchor key living quarters. In the family room just off the kitchen, a plaster fireplace partition serves as a sculptural divider that defines the layout while maintaining visual openness. Conceived as a private resort-style retreat with a spa bath and expansive custom closet the primary suite showcases a second fireplace that introduces warmth and intimacy. “Luxury is not about how many rooms can fit into a floor plan; it is about how beautifully those rooms live,” Angel emphasizes. “Rather than dividing the residence into a greater number of smaller bedrooms, we intentionally created three expansive bedroom suites. Preserving those proportions gives the homeowners comfort, privacy and breathing room. Our team considers those daily experiences just as carefully as the features that make an immediate visual impression.” “A project of this complexity takes far more than a strong concept,” says Steven Anthony. “What distinguishes the Steven Anthony team is the ownership our people take in their work. They solve problems, protect the details and care deeply about the result.” The Vinoy penthouse is a celebration of space, individuality and exceptional craftsmanship. “We are proud not only of the extraordinary home we created, but of the team whose talent and dedication made it possible,” adds Angel. Old-World Soul, Modern Living Inside a Transportive St. Pete Remodel By Ronda M. Parag Photography: Penlight Media - Chris Restrepo

hen opening the front door of this 1,035 square foot St. Petersburg residence, any immediate impression of a typical mid-century Florida condominium instantly dissolves. Originally constructed in 1975, the home was transformed through a complete redesign by designer Harry Myers, Owner and Principal Designer of HLM Designs. In place of standard coastal tropes, Myers crafted a deeply personal, European-inspired retreat defined by rich architectural layers, thoughtful space planning and tailored character. From the outset, Myers aimed to give the homeowners a true sense of arrival that felt collected over time rather than styled overnight. Drawing inspiration from European old-world heritage, specifically England and Tuscany, the concept was tailored around the clients’ vibrant backgrounds. With the wife hailing from England and both homeowners being avid art collectors and frequent travelers, Myers curated a design narrative that fuses traditional motifs with modern silhouettes. “From the beginning, I wanted the clients to open the front door and feel as though they had been transported somewhere else,” shares Harry Myers. “The inspiration came from European old-world heritage, particularly England and Tuscany, interpreted through a transitional lens with a modern infusion. It became about creating tension between old and new, while using traditional architectural details alongside modern forms, bold pattern against quieter earth tones, polished elements mixed with pieces that feel aged or collected.” Because the husband works as a traveling comedian with a passion for cooking and the wife works in the medical field with an appreciation for fine wine, every room was developed to celebrate their distinct interests while maintaining a cohesive aesthetic language throughout the home. Renovating a 1975 concrete structure presented significant technical challenges. With a complete concrete shell, including the ceilings, running new electrical lines or reconfiguring lighting required creative structural maneuvers. Working closely with Ceballos Contracting, Myers dropped the ceiling by two and a half inches using furring strips and finished it with Level 5 drywall. This modification allowed for a completely overhauled lighting scheme, incorporating subtle 4-inch can less fixtures in the kitchen and 39 2-inch gimbals across the rest of the layout. Space optimization was equally essential inside the compact footprint. In the bathrooms, where original swing doors collided with fixtures, solid-core pocket doors were engineered to improve traffic flow. The layout was further refined by expanding the guest shower into adjacent closet space and reworking an awkward pantry to gain additional square footage in the primary closet. “This was essentially a concrete box from 1975, and nearly every constraint forced us to think creatively,” notes Myers. “Those little problem-solving moments are some of the things I’m most proud of because they aren’t necessarily what someone notices in a photograph, but they’re what make the home work. Luxury is just as much about how effortlessly a home functions as it is about what you see.” Pragmatism also dictated material selection. In light of the property’s location in a flood zone, Myers opted for a high-performance 9-inch wide, cork-backed LVP flooring featuring natural texture and motion, balancing durability with refined visual character. Throughout the small footprint, individual focal points anchor key areas. In the kitchen, the layout was opened to connect naturally with the living and dining spaces while establishing a dedicated cooking zone for the husband. A relocated range wall serves as an architectural anchor, combining Zelligeinspired neutral tile with a patterned backdrop behind a custom walnut hood, flanked by dual-illuminating alabaster and brass sconces. Nearby, a dedicated bar area functions as a jewel-box moment, accented by an antique mirrored arabesque backsplash that introduces subtle Deco glamour. The two bathrooms offer distinct personal expressions while speaking to the overarching design theme, with the primary bathroom styled with English old-world influences for the wife, and the guest bathroom drawing from Mediterranean and Tuscan countryside accents for the husband. The design process involved an exceptional degree of trust. Living roughly 600 miles away in the Cayman Islands during construction, the homeowners provided a minimal initial brief—requesting green kitchen cabinetry, a 40

statement dining light, a patterned primary bathroom floor, and a large clock—while leaving the remaining creative direction entirely to Myers. Remarkably, the husband did not view any progress photos or preliminary finished designs prior to the final reveal. “Watching both of them walk into the completed home and take everything in for the first time was an incredible moment,” Myers recalls. “Seeing the clients experience the finished home made me realize that I created something they will now live in, entertain in and make memories in for years. Ultimately, I wanted to demonstrate that luxury doesn’t require an enormous footprint, and personality doesn’t have to come at the expense of refinement.” Through intentional space planning, custom architectural details and an appreciation for narrativedriven interiors, HLM Designs successfully transformed an aging concrete layout into a timeless, highly functional coastal home. A Study In Brown A Sophisticated Fall Palette Call it chocolate, mocha, mushroom, tobacco, espresso, cognac. Half the appeal of color is giving it a name that immediately creates a picture in your head. And for Fall 2026, that picture is decidedly brown.
“Across market, we are seeing warmer, more saturated tones throughout the home” —Wendy Garraty, Founder of Clayton Gray Home “But this is not the heavy brown of years past. The palette feels sophisticated, with shades ranging from soft mushroom and taupe to dark chocolate and nearly black espresso. It is neutral, and feels decidedly rich.” The look works best in layers rather than matching shades. In fact, if the browns match perfectly, we recommend starting over. This fall, materials are just as important as color. Leather and hide pave the way for suede, horn, dark woods and hammered metals. Lighting and accessories are taking on warmer finishes too.
“What we like most is how differently brown reads depending on the material” “In suede it feels soft, in wood more grounded, and in metal almost architectural. The color may be the common thread, but the finish gives each piece its own point of view." A chocolate suede ottoman can live beautifully alongside a horn or shell accessory. Add a dark wood table, a hammered metal detail or a lamp in a warm tobacco finish. The variation in tone and texture is what makes the combination work. And there is no need to abandon the neutrals you already own. That is where these shades work especially well. Ivory upholstery, plaster walls, natural linens and lighter woods provide the contrast to moodier hues.
“Consider this your permission to go a little darker this season” “Brown has always been a foundation of good design. This fall, we ear exploring brown and have decided it just might be our new favorite neutral.” M Clayton Gray Home 1315 E 7th Ave. #105, Tampa, FL 33605 or shop www.claytongrayhome.com.
