Summer CAMP (WanderList Zine No. 02)

Page 1

Summer CAMP

What kind of CAMP is this zine about?

“so bad it’s good. except it’s gay” – Urban Dictionary

“theatricality, playfulness and exaggeration... Camp challenges social norms and hierarchies by intentionally being different and bold” – The Queer Victorian Origins of the Word ‘Camp’ (https://tinyurl.com/y8spvpa5/)

“Art, performance, or other media that plays with notions of good and bad taste, artificiality and sincerity, via an excess of panache, flair, and whimsy. Often implicitly or explicitly queer, regularly subversive, always stylized in an over-the-top way. Camp is trashy treasure.” – this zine

How strictly seasonal is this?

A decent chunk of the movies on this list are set in Summer, but not all of them. Some of them just have Summer-y vibes to me (see next page).

Do I think everyone will agree about the movies on this list?

Ha! NOPE. But hopefully someone enjoys it anyway.

(therewillbeazineforeachone)

Lots of sun, epic roadtrips, and coming into one’s own. An adventerous season of changes, transformation, and coming-of-age at any age.

The Seasons of CAMP Summer Autumn

Plays more openly with horror tropes, dancing through fallen leaves and spooky settings. Attempts to fit in are discarded, revealing the wonderful weirdnesses that have been there all along.

Winter Spring

It might be snowy or dead-looking outside, but internal evolutions are brewing with promise. May come with an abundance of bisexual lighting and/or fabulous fashions.

Sour candy hearts and prom dresses. Sharp edges sting as new beginnings and a renewed sense of self begin to grow and blossom in unexpected ways.

Summer Roadtrip

One of my creative habits is making a themed set of playlists over the summer – modernized Green Pantheon, fictional worlds, comic book characters, that kind of thing. This playlist is from a set of different movie genres.
