It all started with a question of just how many movies focused on and around Valentine’s Day were slashers – about half a dozen, from my first searches.
I only kept the original My Bloody Valentine, and trimmed Hospital Massacre / X-Ray (1982) from the list after watching because it was more of a healthcare horror than a valentine. And Love Hurts (2025) didn’t have much of a bite.
The final result is a blend of titles all about love and death/gore in equal measure, some silly and some serious, where the emotional stakes are just as important as the physical ones. Subgenres include not only slashers but also gothics, heists, dark romance, assassin stories, romantic thrillers, and more.
(Dis?)honorable mention goes to Psychos in Love (1978) because it looked like something that would fit in with this bunch but I couldn’t find it anywhere to watch it.
