This is the highest award for academic achievement in each Form. It is awarded to the pupils who have attained the highest standard across all the subjects they take.

These prizes are awarded to pupils, after the award of Special Merit, who have gained the highest marks in each subject.

These prizes are awarded to the pupils who have not won a subject prize but who have made significant progress in their attainment over the school year. Six prizes are awarded per Form.

THE HONOURABLE MR JUSTICE HUMPHREYS
Born and raised in Belfast, The Honourable Mr Justice Humphreys began his academic journey here at Methodist College, where the foundations of his remarkable legal career were first laid. He went on to study at Brasenose College, Oxford, before being called to the Bar in 1994. His dedication and expertise saw him take Silk in 2011, and in 2021, he was appointed to the High Court bench—an achievement that reflects his standing within the legal profession.
Throughout his career, The Honourable Mr Justice Humphreys has made significant contributions to the legal community. He has served as Chair of the Commercial Bar Association, Bursar to the Bar Council of Northern Ireland, and currently holds the role of Deputy Chairman of the Boundary Commission for Northern Ireland. Since 2021, he has also served as Presiding Coroner, overseeing legacy litigation, and in 2023, he was appointed Commissioner to the Northern Ireland Judicial Appointments Commission, a position he will hold until 2028.
Beyond the courtroom, The Honourable Mr Justice Humphreys has remained
deeply committed to education and sport. A former Chair of the Board of Governors at Methodist College and current parent, he continues to support aspiring legal minds through his involvement in the College’s Law Conference. He also serves as Director of the Northern Cricket Union of Ireland, reflecting his passion for sport and community engagement.
We are delighted to welcome The Honourable Mr Justice Humphreys back to his alma mater for Senior Prize Day. His achievements and continued support of the College are an inspiration to us all, and we are grateful for his presence as we celebrate the accomplishments of our senior students.
