GOP Hits the Home Stretch By Matt Meduri The 2025 election, likely the last under New York’s recently-upheld even-year elections law, is less than a week away. The Smithtown Republican Party is looking to retain its entire hold on Town-level positions, as well as both County Legislature seats that cross the town’s border. Supervisor Ed Wehrheim (R-Kings Park) is running for a third four-year term. First elected in 2017 after a down-to-the-wire primary that year, Wehrheim survived another contested primary this year, a tumultuous race between term-limited Suffolk County Legislator Rob Trotta (R-Fort Salonga) that culminated in a ten-point win for Wehrheim in June.
