Suffolk Crooks Seek Pardon, Legislature Urges Trump To Decline By Matt Meduri Former Suffolk County District Attorney Tom Spota (D-Mt. Sinai) and one of the D.A.’s top corruption watchdogs, Christopher McPartland, are seeking clemency from President Donald Trump (R-FL). The pair presided over perhaps one of the darkest eras in Suffolk politics, including, but not limited to, the physical abuse of Christopher Loeb, the protection of thenPolice Chief James “Jimmy” Burke, and local resistance to the FBI’s help in the Gilgo Beach investigation. By Matt Meduri W.S. Commerdinger, Jr. County Park Preservation Society sits in the heart of Nesconset. With entrances on Edgewood Avenue, Browns Road, and Stueben Boulevard, the quiet woods have served as a spot of respite for residents, endless trails for happy dogs, and even a bit of local lore. The Commerdinger family purchased the land in 1953. Walter Commerdinger, Sr. served as the appointed Smithtown Town Assessor in the 1920s and 1930s. Walter, Jr., after serving in France during WWI, returned home and purchased the Nesconset General Store and Post Office. He became the second Nesconset Postmaster from 1926 to 1933 and against from 1946 to 1959. The current preserve boasts the Commerdinger farmhouse and chicken coop. Now boarded up, the relics of local history can still be observed after a short walk from Edgewood Avenue. The land was preserved by the County in 2006. Continued on page 10
