Suffolk Remembers Flight 800 on 30th Anniversary By Matt Meduri It’s been thirty years since Trans World Airlines (TWA) Flight 800 fell into the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of East Moriches. To date, it’s the third-deadliest aviation accident in U.S. history. On July 17, 1996, Flight 800 departed from John F. Kennedy International Airport at 8:19p.m. en route to Rome, Italy, with a stop in Paris, France. At 8:31p.m., the Boeing 747 exploded and fell into the ocean waters. All 230 souls on board, 212 passengers and 18 crew members, were killed. Continued on page 5

Town Approves $6M Investment for Marina Modernization By Matt Meduri The Town of Smithtown is moving ahead on a yearslong goal, a comprehensive modernization of the Town Marina. Located at 586 E Long Beach Street in Nissequogue, the marina will receive a recently approved $6 million capital bond authorization. The investment will “finally bring long-awaited improvements to one of the community’s most cherished and heavily sought-after waterfront destinations,” according to the Town. The funds were approved during the July 14 Town Board meeting. Continued on page 10
