Officials Warn of Gold Scam, Legislators Take Action By Matt Meduri
Suffolk County officials are warning of a new scam targeting residents, particularly older residents with large cash reserves. Scammers continue to pose as bankers, creditors, or other seemingly legitimate actors to dupe residents into liquidating their assets into gold. Scammers then promise that their money is safe in gold, except the victims don’t see the precious metal in their hands. In addition to the typical safeguarding of one’s assets, officials implore residents to contact the District Attorney’s office and/or law enforcement when they suspect they’re being scammed. Head of the Harbor Receives Water Main Upgrades, Fire Hydrants By Matt Meduri The wooded Village of Head of the Harbor is undergoing construction from the Suffolk County Water Authority (SCWA) to boost emergency response capabilities. The SCWA is replacing about 5,400 feet of undersized transite water main in the village. Crews are swapping it out for ductile iron mains, which have a lifespan of about 100 years. The main will be installed along Rhododendron Drive, Saddle Road, Birch Lane, and Oak Ridge Road. The current three-inch main is not wide enough to support flow for fire hydrants, the key problem solved by introducing the wider main. For the first time, this part of Head of the Harbor will have fire hydrants. Continued on page 10
