Leaders, Victims’ Families Rally Against State Criminal Justice Bills By Madison Warren On Friday, Suffolk County Executive Ed Romaine (R-Center Moriches) and Suffolk District Attorney Ray Tierney (R), joined by other local leaders and State representatives, came together to raise public awareness about several pieces of legislation currently being considered in Albany. In Hauppauge, they stood alongside families of homicide victims to discuss the Elder Parole Act, the Fair and Timely Parole Act, the Earned Time Act, and the Second Look Act. Officials said the proposed bills could lead to the early release of thousands of New York’s most violent offenders back into communities. Continued on page 5

COVID-Era Trend Finds Home in Smithtown By Matt Meduri The COVID-19 Pandemic’s woes don’t need to be reiterated. Instead, the innovation that came from such a bleak and trying time should be what comes to mind. For long-time musician Mike DelGuidice, he took the lemons that a difficult time handed him and made a gallon of lemonade. During the pandemic, DelGuidice, who’s worked with Long Island legend Billy Joel, was marooned in his home along with the rest of the world. Suddenly shut out of live performance, he began performing on Facebook Live from his porch, which quickly gained traction in the community. Continued on page 10
