Thousands Attend LI Vigil for Charlie Kirk

By Matt Meduri Last week saw perhaps one of the most historic events of the century, the assassination of Charlie Kirk. The conservative activist was just 31 when he was shot and killed in Utah while conducting his trademark “Prove Me Wrong” series in which he invited and promoted open political debate and discourse on college campuses through his organization Turning Point USA. Kirk founded Turning Point at the age of 18 in his garage, steadily growing it into a massive movement that spans nearly 2,000 college and high school campuses nationwide and himself into an avatar not just for young conservatives, but for Christian ideals as well.

Town Extends 12-Month Moratorium on BESS Facilities By Matt Meduri

One of the latest controversial topics is that of the relatively new Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) Facilities. These stations are stocked with batteries, primarily made of lithium, that are designed to harness generated power for later use, either to relieve the grid during times of peak usage and/or outages. BESS facilities are becoming more discussed as New York State intends to increase the stock of these stations across the state to relieve the grid. The Town of Islip, along with other Suffolk municipalities, has renewed multiple moratoriums on the construction of such facilities, citing health and environmental hazards in the event of a thermal runaway that leads to an explosion and fire.
