Zeldin Names New L.I. Sound Partnership Director By Matt Meduri

The Long Island Sound Partnership (LISP) is a cooperative effort that was formed in 1985 by Congress, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and the states of New York and Connecticut. Its mission is to protect the health of the Long Island Sound. The partnership is also among the first EPA National Estuary Programs. Last Thursday in Port Jefferson, EPA Administrator and former Congressman Lee Zeldin (R-Shirley) returned to Suffolk to meet with regional Sound partners and name a new director of LISP, Nicole “Nikki” Tachiki. Tachiki will look to parlay her time with the EPA and her last year as acting director of LISP into further stewarding and restoring one of Suffolk’s most valuable bodies of water.

Thousands Turn Out for 12th Annual Salsa Festival By Matt Meduri Over the weekend, the heart of Brentwood had a chance to partake in some classic Latin culture with the twelfth annual Salsa Festival that turned Suffolk Avenue into a hub of entertainment, food, and lots of dancing. The music of this festival is the highlight, and this year saw big names like Tito Puente, Jr., Tito Rodriguez, Jr., and La Sonora 495, among others, complete with brass backings, congas, and no room on the avenue-turneddancefloor. Singing with the group was the festival’s sponsor, Suffolk County Legislator Sam Gonzalez (D-Brentwood). Brentwood residents salsa dance at the weekend festival (Credit - Matt Meduri)
