Hochul Backtracks, Asks for Ex-NY’ers to Return By Matt Meduri Governor Kathy Hochul (D-Hamburg) recently addressed perhaps New York State’s most pressing issue: nation-leading out-migration from the Empire State that has promulgated an eroding tax base amidst more-ambitious-than-ever spending packages. Hochul drew immense ire in the home stretch of the 2022 gubernatorial campaign, when she told the Republican nominee, then-Congressman Lee Zeldin (R-Shirley), to “jump on a bus and head down to Florida where you belong.” The motion was directed at other Republicans as well. “Get out of town because you don’t represent our values. Peter Pan Diner Reopens Following Kitchen Fire By Madison Warren Peter Pan Diner has officially reopened after being closed for twenty months following a kitchen fire. The diner has undergone a complete transformation, and owner Peter Lentzere and team are ready for this next chapter. Since reopening its doors, it has quickly returned to being a staple not just for the Village of Brightwaters and the greater Bay Shore area, but for Long Island as a whole. The story of Peter Pan Diner dates back to 1955, and just a few years later, in 1959, Peter’s father, Gus, took over the business, keeping it in the family ever since. Peter shared that he stepped in during the 1980s after taking a semester off from school to help his father, who had fallen ill, and he never left. He credits the customers as the reason he has stayed for so long. Peter explained that there’s something special about seeing families return time and time again, to the point where they begin to feel like your own. Continued on page 10
