Suffolk Remembers Flight 800 on 30th Anniversary By Matt Meduri It’s been thirty years since Trans World Airlines (TWA) Flight 800 fell into the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of East Moriches. To date, it’s the third-deadliest aviation accident in U.S. history. On July 17, 1996, Flight 800 departed from John F. Kennedy International Airport at 8:19p.m. en route to Rome, Italy, with a stop in Paris, France. At 8:31p.m., the Boeing 747 exploded and fell into the ocean waters. All 230 souls on board, 212 passengers and 18 crew members, were killed. Continued on page 5

Town Taps Developer for ISP Expansion, Board Remains Skeptical By Matt Meduri Long Island MacArthur Airport (ISP) is not only a fan-favorite regional airport to many Long Islanders, but it’s also an economic hub in the heart of Suffolk County. The current terminal operates just off Veterans Memorial Highway (NY-454), just a few miles south of the Ronkonkoma LIRR station. Six commercial airlines serve the airport; new routes continue to be unveiled. Continued on page 10
