Suffolk County Executive Ed Romaine (R-Center Moriches) officially launched the county’s role in America 250 last week with a vibrant celebration at the historic Sagtikos Manor in West Bay Shore. The milestone event marked the beginning of Suffolk’s participation in a nationwide, multi-year initiative commemorating the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 2026. Set against the backdrop of one of Long Island’s most significant historic landmarks, the celebration brought the colonial era to life for hundreds of attendees. Bellport’s First National Wrestling Champion By Messenger Papers Sports Staff In sports, as in life, real achievement is not a matter of chance — it is the product of preparation, discipline, and execution when it matters most. Bellport High School freshman Camryn Howard proved this principle on the national stage, becoming the school’s firstever national wrestling champion at the Fargo National Championships. Competing in the 157-pound division of the 16U Men’s Freestyle bracket, Howard entered as the top seed and left with a decisive 5–0 victory over Pennsylvania’s No.
2 seed. This was not just another win; it was the result of years of consistent work — from the grind of early-morning practices to the relentless repetition of drills most people never see. Howard’s 2025 season alone tells a story of dominance. At the NYSPHSAA State Championships, he delivered a 21–5 technical fall in the 138-pound class.
