It was a beautiful spring day to celebrate a project almost five years in the making, and a welcome return from the turmoil of the destruction of Highway 8. Residents from Spence’s Bridge, Nicomen, Merritt and beyond gathered at the Site 10 bridge of the highway on April 25 to celebrate the completion of the restoration of the final two sites, after the highway was devastated in the November 2021 atmospheric river event. It was overnight on Nov. 14, 2021 that the Coldwater River’s waters began to rapidly rise around the communities of Spius Creek, Petit Creek and Nooaitch.
