EVENT HOSTS WELCOME
"Welcome to the Mercy Matter’s 10th edition of Ability-OverDisabilty. This issue is dedicated to
Dear Guests and Cherished Friends,
On behalf of my wife, Tessa, and our entire Board of Directors, welcome to the 10th Annual Ability-Over-Disability Art Exhibit, “A Decade of Brilliance: The Art of Ability ” It is our profound honor to serve as hosts for this milestone celebration an evening that marks ten years of vision, courage, and creative expression.
A decade ago, within the storied halls of the National Arts Club, this initiative quietly began What started as a hopeful gathering in a smaller space has grown into a signature celebration of artistry and advocacy. Year after year, this exhibit has affirmed a powerful and enduring truth: there is, indeed, ability over disability
The roots of this celebration reach back to 2006, with the founding of Creative Arts Therapy at Mercy Home Designed as a nurturing and intentional space, it opened pathways for children and young adults to discover their voices through art, music, drama, yoga, and horticulture From that sacred space emerged the Gifted Artists, the joyful resonance of Melodic Soul, and ultimately this exhibit ensuring that artists with intellectual and developmental disabilities are not only supported, but seen, valued, and celebrated.
This year, we are especially proud to showcase six remarkable Creative Artists whose work spans painting, beadwork, jewelry making, and attire Their creations reflect imagination, discipline, and authenticity. Each piece stands as a testament to perseverance and possibility
As we commemorate this tenth anniversary, we do so with gratitude for the families, caregivers, staff, sponsors, and friends whose belief in this mission has sustained and strengthened it Because of this community, Mercy Home continues to expand its reach while holding fast to dignity, compassion, and justice
May this memento serve as a reminder of what ten years of creativity and commitment can accomplish and as an invitation to imagine the brilliance still to come.
With profound gratitude,
Frank & Tessa Fellone, III Board of Directors, Vice Chair Development Committee, Chair Event Hosts

Wherever Tanisha goes, her presence is luminous an expression of joy shaped by authenticity and purpose
Creativity has long been her anchor At just eight years old, it was her mother who first placed beads in her hands, patiently teaching her patterns, technique, and the quiet discipline of design What began as a childhood lesson has grown into a lifelong bond; even today, mother and daughter continue to exchange ideas, explore new styles, and speak the shared language of beads and imagination Through Creative Arts Therapy and in the quiet of her own room, Tanisha meticulously crafts intricate beadwork, transforming simple materials into radiant expressions of patience, focus, and emotional depth

Often accompanied by her favorite music or a beloved television show playing softly nearby, she finds calm in repetition and clarity in color Each carefully placed bead becomes an act of grounding, a testament to her selfawareness and strength Through this practice, she channels energy into beauty, cultivating balance through creativity
Tanisha’s love for Jamaican culture further enriches her vibrant world Music, cuisine, festive gatherings, and community celebrations animate her spirit and deepen her connections. She delights in dance, holiday decorating, cinema outings, vacations, and light physical activity embracing experiences that nurture mind, body, and soul.
