From the Chair As the year draws to a close, we are given a moment to pause and reflect on the journey we have shared. The past year was one of growth, and meaningful connection. Through exhibitions, the George Festival, our market, and new collaborative projects, we were reminded of the power of art to inspire, unite, and give voice to our shared experiences. The year brought fresh energy and new opportunities, strengthening both our artists and our association. SCAVA continues to thrive because of its community — artists, supporters, volunteers, friends, and families who believe in the value of creativity and connection. Dedication, passion, and hard work are never in vain, and together we continue to build a space where art can flourish. As we look ahead, may the coming year be filled with inspiration, laughter, quiet moments, and renewed creativity. Wishing you a joyful festive season and a bright New Year filled with art and possibility.

SCAVA’s Year-End Exhibition It was a great pleasure to welcome all the artists and guests to SCAVA’s Year-End Exhibition in the beautiful Sayers Auditorium of the George Museum to celebrate the talent, creativity, and dedication of our members. Thank you to all our members — for your participation, your commitment, and your passion throughout this year, and this exhibition stands as a testament to their hard work and love for the arts. Also a thank you also to all the patrons, your support is immense! Ian Tainton curated the exhibition with almost 200 artworks on display. Another first took place with this exhibition opening in memory of Bill Bennett, the Best Sketch in this year’s Year-End exhibition. Bill Bennett, was one of SCAVA’s founding members. The judging privilege landed on Fawa Conradie from the Knysna art society. The winner: Annalene Lindeque with her painting Lemon A huge congratulations to Annalene— Bill Bennett would have been proud. Thank you also to The little Art Shop for donating the gift. The exhibition is still running until the 22nd of January 2026, make sure to pop in!

SCAVA – ART OF CHRISTMAS – Market The inaugural George Festival 2025 was launched on November the 14th, in the Sayers Auditorium of the George museum, amongst our artwork. Such a proud moment for SCAVA! We were thrilled to be part of this exciting new event not only with our exhibition, but also with our upcoming “The Art of Christmas” Market from the 13-20th of December and to have been part of the first George Festival. This market was not only a festive celebration but also an opportunity to shine a light on SCAVA’s incredibly talented members. We would like to express our deepest gratitude to Minister Ricardo Mackenzie, The Western Cape Department of Cultural Affairs and Sports (DCAS) for their invaluable support in making this market possible. Thank you also for the support of MTN, Heineken and the George Tourism. Lorrinda Hakimi, Mthandazo Ntsham and The George Museum and it’s staff were incredibly supportive, we are so very grateful for their support in making this happen for SCAVA. It was a market of artists, artisans, makers and creators that drew a lot of people to the George Museum and also to our exhibition! We were excited to have a coffee shop at the market inside the Sayers Auditorium run by Prince of Tarts and The Neighborhood Barista. There were lots of places where people could just relax and enjoy the art and the beautiful sunny days we had. Rosenhof was also present with a stall were they sold nature inspired goods. Thank you to all stall vendors, we could not have done it without you! SCAVA – ART OF CHRISTMAS – Market The market had a selfie spot were visitors could take photos! Also an station were one could write a special message to hang in one of the Christmas trees. A true village atmosphere for all to enjoy! The George Museum stood proud at the top of York street with Christmas lights and a flickering Christmas tree, with a big SCAVA banner to invite visitors in. We are looking forward to the next one.

The George Festival 2025!

SCAVA and the Long Table as part of the George Festival 2025 The chairperson of SCAVA, René Scribante was asked to talk more about art and SCAVA at the Long Table Event by Libraries that took place on the 15th of December in the Sayers Auditorium of the George Museum. It was a proud moment for her to be able to tell all the delegates and guests more about SCAVA while standing amongst all the artworks of SCAVA members that formed part of our Year-End Exhibition, during this event. She then talked more about art and the perspective through the eye of the artists versus the viewer and she invited the onlooker to linger a bit longer and to engage with the artists to learn their perspectives. The Long Table was a beautiful event with the exchange of cultures, poetry, music, writers, artists and more!

SCAVA – ART OF CHRISTMAS – Market and George Festival!

SCAVA and Workshops by Elmine Vorster MAKE YOUR MARK - Expressive Play Mini Art Workshops were presented by Elmine Vorster throughout the week of the ART OF CHRISTMAS – Market and George Festival, and it was open to all ages. Elmine took the participants to explore the George Museum and the Botanical Gardens with these “iMagination and More in reMarkable Mixed Media Mini Workshops” Vincent van Gogh even visited the museum, and a special tribute workshop was dedicated to the beautiful old photograph which once hung in the SARS building. They are now on display in the George Museum. THANK YOU ELMINE!

SCAVA AGM 2026!

SCAVA’s AGM 2026 Notification Letter to Members 3 January 2026 Dear SCAVA members, Our SCAVA AGM for 2026 will take place on Saturday 24th of January 2026 at the George Museum. As per our constitution all committee members need to be elected by a nomination. Please find the following nominations and proxy form attached. - Nomination Chairman - Nomination Secretary - Nomination Treasurer - Nomination General Committee Member - Proxy form Please note the nomination forms need to be handed or emailed to the chairperson admin@scava.co.za, no later than Friday, 16th January 2026 at 12h00.
