An unexpected invitation to spend a summer at a Mennonite church in Pennsylvania impacted the rest of our lives. We had grown up on the fringes of General Conference Mennonite Church, but God led us to serve in its denominational center in Kansas and its eventual merger into Mennonite Church USA. That path included a Pennsylvania pastorate and missionary assignments in Brazil and Botswana. Our families experienced loss and estrangement. We were challenged by changing lifestyles and technology. Even more surprising invitations awaited us in retirement.
