GREAT PEOPLE MAKE FAVORITE PLACES
BCC has created an actionable statement that helps define our philosophy known as The Simple Truth: Great People Make Favorite Places. Below is a small sample of staff members who are helping to make BCC your favorite place.
July Staff Member of the Month
Carissa Barclay, Staff Accountant
Carissa has consistently demonstrated an outstanding work ethic, positive attitude, and true “get it done” mentality. When a team member stepped away in early May, she seamlessly stepped up as the go-to person on our Accounting Team—tackling not only her own responsibilities but also taking on new tasks for the first time in her career with confidence and commitment. She never once backs down from a challenge and approaches every day with determination and positivity. In addition to carrying a heavier workload, Carissa played a critical role in training and mentoring our two interns, serving as a trusted leader and support system throughout their onboarding. We are incredibly thankful for her contributions and so happy she’s a part of our team.
Exceptional Leadership Award
Katherine Seal, Aquatics Manager
Since joining the Aquatics Team in 2020, Katherine has demonstrated outstanding leadership and dedication. This past season, she took on an expanded role, overseeing swim lessons and coaching the staff. Most notably, Katherine was the first responder to a serious incident at the pool, providing immediate first aid with skill and composure. Her consistency, fairness, knowledge, and commitment to working alongside her team exemplify what it means to be a true leader.

It’s the Halloween classic that sparks more debate than costumes before a party—candy corn. Some say it’s a sweet little triangle of joy, others say it belongs in the trick, not the treat. Where do you stand—Team Love It or Team Leave It?

MEET YOUR NEW
STAFF ENGAGEMENT
COORDINATOR
Hi! My name is Elizabeth Pearce! I graduated from UNC Greensboro in 2024 with a degree in Event Management. I’ve been a competitive cheerleader for 18 years and was lucky enough to win State, National, and World Championships along the way. In my free time, I love traveling, spending time with friends, volunteering and playing with dogs, shopping, and going on spontaneous adventures. I’m so excited to be part of the BCC family and can’t wait to get to know everyone!
MEET YOUR NEW DIRECTOR OF AGRONOMY
We’re pleased to share that Drew Barnett has joined BCC as our new Director of Agronomy. Drew spent the last 12 years as Golf Course Superintendent at Knollwood Club in Lake Forest, Illinois, forty minutes north of Chicago. Originally from Reading, Pennsylvania, he is thrilled to return to the East Coast to be closer to family.
Drew’s previous experience includes four years as Golf Course
Superintendent at Philadelphia Cricket Club and two years as Assistant Superintendent at Corral de Tierra Country Club in Salinas, California. Since 2014, Drew has excelled in his role as Superintendent at Knollwood Club, providing firm and fast conditions for members and guests. He has also hosted a very successful Western Amateur Championship in 2016 and completed a restoration of the golf course to honor the original design as laid out by C.H. Alison in 1924.
Drew and his Border Collie, Alison, are excited to call Baltimore their new home. He looks forward to working closely with our team, the Golf and Green committees, and the membership to maintain and elevate the high standards of our courses while preparing for future enhancements and championships.

We’re excited to introduce the Member Experience Habits of Connection! Over the next several weeks, you’ll take part in short training sessions with your department leaders. These sessions will give you daily habits that bring our Core Four values to life and strengthen our Simple Truth: “Great People Make Favorite Places.”
Intentional actions and attitudes that foster meaningful relationships. These habits can be practiced daily and refined over time to deepen trust, create belonging, and enhance emotional connection.
BUILD TRUST
Creating a foundation of psychological safety, warmth, and consistency through genuine greetings, approachability, and follow-through. This is the doorway to deeper connection.
DISCOVER
Asking thoughtful questions & paying attention to details that help uncover preferences, interests, and context that make each member unique.
REMEMBER, REFLECT, & RECORD
Demonstrating care & attentiveness by recalling details and circling back to previous conversations, visits, or service moments. This proves to the member: You matter, and I was listening.
ANTICIPATE & SURPRISE
Moving from reactive to proactive service—delivering what members want before they ask, and adding thoughtful touches that exceed expectations.
CELEBRATE
Creating emotional loyalty through recognition, shared joy, and inclusion. This is the heart of member experience: turning transactions into relationships.
VIEW FILE
WHY THIS MATTERS
By practicing these habits together, we will:
• Develop a genuine understanding of our membership
• Build a rich “library” of member preferences
• Deliver extraordinary, personalized experiences that exceed expectations
This Week’s Challenge: Wave First It may seem small, but being the first to wave creates an instant connection. Nobody waves first—but everybody waves back. Let’s make that first move and set the tone for connection.
HABIT #1 Build Trust
• Make eye contact, offer a warm greeting, and smile
• Learn and use member names correctly
• Be reliable—always follow through on what you say
• Be approachable & offer help without being asked

Fall Fit TIPS
Take advantage of the crisp fall air by going for walks, runs or bike rides. Sign up for one of the many fall 5 or 10ks happening around the area such as the Baltimore running festival (October 18), heads and tails Pikesville doggie dash (October 19), and Patterson Park 5k (November15).
Head outside and get in some extra yard work. Raking and bagging leaves can burn 250-400 calories per hour.
Eat seasonal fruits and vegetables such as apples (fiber and vitamin C), squash (Vitamin A, B6, and C), beets (folate and manganese) and brussels sprouts (fiber, vitamin C and vitamin K).
As the holidays approach, stress can start to build- try incorporating meditation, stretching, and breathing exercises to stay grounded. Try box breathing (4-4-44 method). Inhale for 4 counts, hold for 4 counts, exhale for 4 counts, and hold again for 4 counts. Repeat for several rounds.
