Hafa adai Fellows! Congratulations for becoming a part of the 6th Cohort of the Pacific Century Fellows – Marianas Chapter! I am extremely happy to welcome each one of you to this program. I have a good sense that the Class of 2019 will be a particularly endearing one – because all of you survived Typhoon Yutu! I raise my hat off to you - committing to this leadership development program means that you are committing to be a part of our island community’s present and future destiny. Each one of you are accomplished individuals in your respective professions. I admire your humility and passion to receive leadership mentoring from this Program. While your Class will decide on which specific segments of private and public sectors you will engage in the 9 months ahead, we assure that you will find each session to be stimulating and informed. You will enjoy unique opportunities to pick the minds of distinguished leaders in government, business, academia, and philanthropy. Not only in our Commonwealth, but also in Guam and Hawaii. Apart from your Class of 2019, you also have the privilege of drawing from the wealth of knowledge of the first 70 graduates from the first five Cohorts. You are welcome to engage every member of the PCF Marianas Chapter Alumni Association – collectively as a Class, or individually as you may see fit to pursue your advocacies. I ask each one of you to be continually inspired to take part in the dialogue. We hope that this leadership development program will motivate you to embrace at least one new principle that you’ve never had in your life. And that “something new” that you will learn will bring you much closer to the fulfillment of our shared vision – a greater sense of community responsibility to build a more resilient Northern Mariana Islands!

Born in Hong Kong, Jerry Tan grew up in Guam and Saipan and has been a resident for over 40 years. He was Valedictorian of Barrigada Jr. High and JFK High Schools in Guam, and graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Guam with a double major in Accounting and Management. He learned business management outside of the classroom as well, having had the opportunity from various positions he held in his family’s business. He is the Chief Executive Officer of TanHoldings, a diverse holding company which does business in more than a dozen industries in the Western Pacific. He is also the CEO of CTSI Logistics, a company founded on Saipan which today has grown to include offices in 12 Stations in 18 strategic locations in North America, Asia and the Pacific. In addition to the above roles, Jerry also serves the government of the CNMI in many capacities, such as Special Advisor to the CNMI Governor for Trade and Tourism since 2013, member of the CNMI Governor’s Strategic Economic Development Council since 2004 and Board Member of the Marianas Visitors Authority since 2012 (previously its Chairman from 2006 to 2010). In the community, he is the President of Northern Mariana Islands Football Association and Executive Member of East Asian Football Federation. He was recognized as the 2016 Administrator of the Year Award by Northern Marianas Sports Association.

MUFI HANNEMANN Founder, Pacific Century Fellows
Mufi Hannemann founded the Pacific Century Fellows based on his experience as a White House Fellow, that is, mentoring and encouraging future generations of local leaders. Working with prominent individuals and colleagues among the business community in Hawaii, Hannemann and his team recognized the need for leadership development that was broad-based and different. The result was a program that allows Hawaii Fellows the same insight and exposure as White House Fellows to leaders in government, as well as in the various business and social sectors that are so critical to the present and future of the State of Hawaii. Mufi Hannemann has proudly served as Mayor of the City and County of Honolulu from 2005 to 2010. Mr. Hannemann also actively served at the state level in the administrations of Governor George Ariyoshi and Governor John Waihee in the roles of Special Assistant and as the Director for the Departments of Business, Economic Development & Tourism and Office of International Relations. He was an executive with agricultural business C. Brewer and Company, created and operated his own consulting firm and non-profit organization, and was an educator and coach at ‘Iolani School, his high school alma mater. In addition, Hannemann also has the distinction of having served in four Presidential administrations—Carter, Reagan, Clinton, and Bush—in a number of appointed capacities.
The Pacific Century Fellows In 1996, Hawaii’s Pacific Century Fellows program drew its inspiration from the White House Fellows Program, which was founded by President Lyndon B. Johnson in 1964. Mufi Hannemann, former Mayor of Honolulu, founded Hawaii's PCF program and was a White House Fellows member himself during President Ronald Reagan’s administration.
