Our manufacturing site in Lithia Springs, Georgia, is tackling waste—and making a difference for the environment. With the goal to achieve the Underwriters Laboratories Zero Waste Certification, the team completed the UL audit in the spring and recently learned they achieved Gold certification! Even more impressive, their efforts diverted over 96% of the site’s waste from the landfill. Next up: plans for a diaper waste recycling system to reclaim pulp fluff and super absorbent polymer from scrap products, aiming for Platinum certification from UL.
When more is more
The tote cart initiative in Operations benefits team members, customers and the environment. It works like this: More on a cart means more on a pallet, which means more on a truck. This simple theory leads to more efficiency, safety and customer satisfaction—and less plastic wrap, diesel fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. • Less handling means safer loading for team members and unloading for customers, saving much needed time and storage space for all.
In this issue
• Fewer manual touches leads to fewer errors, simplifies training, and streamlines the process to get customer orders off the dock faster.

Recognizing the need for a more efficient system, the Manufacturing team in Lithia Springs, Georgia, focused on tracking and separating waste streams to facilitate recycling.
• Reducing wasted space on trucks saves travel time and creates more efficient routes. Operations is helping Medline and our customers shrink our carbon footprint by improving how we pick and ship.
