Medlines keeps our Operations and Manufacturing teams in the know, helping you connect with the broader organization.

Automation and opportunities When she punched in at Medline for the first time 20 years ago, Angelica Chavez was a college student with a temporary warehouse job, not expecting to stay very long, not thinking it would lead her anywhere in particular. Today, she’s somewhere particular, all right: the director of operations at the B11 distribution center (DC) in Aurora, Colorado. Fascinated by the impact she saw Medline making, she began to see the company not as a brief stop but as a place where employees like her were encouraged. Chavez moved from team lead, supervisor and warehouse

From hourly order picker to director of operations, Angelica Chavez recently introduced new automation— and new opportunities—to her team.

manager and spent time making improvements at sites around the country before taking the reins in Aurora—the realization of her goal to one day lead a DC herself. A proponent for adding automation to get more done for customers with less physical toll on the team, Chavez was thrilled earlier this year to introduce AutoStore, the robotic storage and retrieval system. With 96 robots, 38,000 bins, eight induction stations for loading products into the system and 10 picking workstations, AutoStore is helping the team meet B11’s recent 25 percent jump in volume due to customer growth.

Medline allows you to be a part of the change you want to see,” Chavez said. “A lot of our improvements started with hourly team members.” “Our picks per hour are now up from about 60 per employee to 200-240,” Chavez said. “Our on-time delivery is better, and customers are confident in us.” And with that comes more opportunity. They’ve added three more team leads and two more warehouse supervisors through promotions.
