CANADIAN PET EXPO
Canada’s largest family pet event April 7th-9th, 2023
Mediaplanet chatted with the opposable thumbs behind Nala's fame. Nala's owners are spreading happiness, driving social good, and educating pet owners everywhere. What advice would you give to someone who’s looking to add a furry addition to their family?
How has Nala's public figure status changed your life and Nala's life?
My number one piece of advice is to realize that adopting a pet is a longterm commitment. A lot of people get kitten fever and just want to adopt animals that look cute. But that cute kitten could be a 20-year commitment, if you're lucky. Another thing is to make sure you take into consideration all the other things that come with being a pet owner, like the financial responsibility. And pets are beyond cute but sometimes they're messy, too. You need to be prepared for that. Finally, make sure you pick the right kitty for you. When you go to the shelter, ask the people who've been caring for these cats about their personality types. Some people prefer a super playful, crazy cat while others want a lap cat. Don’t just pick a cat based on their appearance. Their personality has to fit your lifestyle and your home.
It has definitely changed our lives. I still feel like I'm living in a dream. We get to work from home and to be with our pets. We can make our own schedule. I feel like we got really lucky. Nala changed our lives by giving us this opportunity that we never thought we would have. She also pushes us beyond what we're comfortable doing every day. Going on The Steve Harvey Show was the most terrifying experience ever, because I'm camera-shy and have stage fright, but it ended up being amazing. Nala pushes us to be better people. She forces us to figure things out. We get an offer, and then we have to learn how to do it.
