I want to thank Ms. Bookins, Ms. Thelma Cousin, and Mrs. Velma Cable for making this magazine issue possible!
I would first off like to thank my Lord, Jesus for giving me this idea to do a magazine dedicated to the Art Community. This magazine is to help showcase the Artist around the state of Mississippi. Although, I am not native to Mississippi I currently have lived here for over 10+ years and I have came across some of the most greatest artist who are native to Mississippi and only a few knows about them. With this magazine I am hoping to get those Artist known around the state if not the world. Every issue will be dedicated to a different genre of Artists. My first one I wanted it to be dedicated to the Authors of Mississippi. I myself has always wanted to be in the magazine field as a Graphic Designer and I wanted to open up an Graphic Design firm here in Mississippi. I am working my way towards that dream with my own company “TheBusinessWoman.� It’s still in a working stages but I am getting it to

Lemon-Honey Pineapple Smoothie Difficulty: Easy Time: 10 minutes
Mimosa Brunch Cocktail
Serves: 6
Difficulty: Easy
Ingredients: 1 medium ripe pineapple, peeled,cored, and cubed 1/2 cup honey 6 tbsp freshly squeezed lemon juice 4 cups cold water 1 medium lemon, thinly sliced
Time: 5 minutes Serves: 1 Ingredients: 3oz. chilled champagne 3oz. orange juice 1 orange slice Directions: Combine in a champagne flute or wine glass. Stir gently. Garnish with orange slice.
Directions: Place pineapple and honey in a food processor and process to a smooth consistency. Add the lemon juice and cold water. Stir until mixed. Serve in glasses over crushed ice with thin slices of lemon of garnish.
Berry-Lemonade Sparkling Sangria Difficulty: Easy Hands-On: 5 minutes Time: 4 hrs and 5 minutes Serves: 6 Ingredients: 1/2 bottle (750ml) Prosecco 1 quant lemonade 2 cups pureed and strained strawberries 1 cup raspberries 1 cup blackberries 1 cup chopped strawberries 3 medium lemons, thinly sliced Directions: Combine all ingredients in a large pitcher. Refrigerate for 4 hours, allowing ingredients to meld before serving, Serve over ice.
Slow Cooker Lemonade Difficulty: Easy Hands-On: 5 minutes Time: 3 hrs and 5 minutes Serves: 8 Ingredients: 12 Lemons, divided 2 quarts water 1 1/2 cups sugar 2 cups crushed ice Directions: Add the juice and peel of 10 lemons, water, and sugar to a 4-quart slow cooker. Cover and cook on low heat for 2 hours. Pour the lemonade through a strainer and chill. Serve chilled with ice and lemon slices.
Lemon Scones Difficulty: Easy Time: 15 to 20 minutes Serves: 20 Ingredients: 3 cups of self raising flour 1 cup of thickened cream/heavy cream 1 cup of lemonade (like Sprite)(sugar free) Directions: Preheat oven to 200 C (400 F) Place flour in a large mixing bowl. Turn the mixture out onto a well-floured board and knead with extra flour until smooth (mixture is very sticky initially.) Place scones onto a lined baking tray so that they are just touching and then bake for 15 to 20 minutes. Scones are cooked when they are golden brown and can be easily pulled apart where they are joined.
Italian Mac & Cheese Difficulty: Easy Time: 15 min prep time / 35 minutes Serves: 4 Ingredients: 1 lb. Italian sausage 1 large onion, diced 2 cloves garlic, minced 1 red bell pepper. diced 10 oz. shells 16 oz. marinara or tomato sauce 4 c. low-sodium chicken broth 1/2 c. half-and-half or heavy cream 1 c. shredded mozzarella Freshly chopped parsley, for garnish Directions: In a large skillet over medium heat, brown sausage until golden. Add onion, garlic and bell pepper and cook until soft, 5 minutes. Add shells and stir until coated in sausage and peppers, then pour over marinara and childen broth. Simmer until shells are aldente and almost all of the liquid is absorbed, 20 minutes. Stir in half-and-half and mozzarella. Garnish with parsley and serve.
German Oven Fried Chicken Difficulty: Easy Ingredients: 1 (approx. 3lb) chicken, cut into pieces Seasoning Salt (or salt and pepper) Paprika Directions: Preheat oven to 400 F. Trim any fat from chicken with scissors. Arrange chicken pieces, skin side down, in a single layer on stoneware cookie sheet. Sprinkle seasoning salt and paprika all over. Turn pieces over, skin side up, and sprinkle seasoning salt and paprika all over. Do not cover chicken. Put on center rack in oven and bake for one (1) hour.

hat made you want to become an author? I wanted to become an Author because I knew that I was creative enough to create interesting fictional characters and I have a love for reading.
Have you always wanted to become a writer? I have always been writing some type of literary work. I just never put it in book form. What genre do you like most and what genre do you write? I really enjoy is History, especially African American History. I write Christian Fiction currently because I want to be a voice for those of us that are trying to have a closer relationship with God which in turn will effect the lives of individuals that come in contact with us. Were you good at English in school? Yes, I was good at English in school. I loved English especially sentence diagramming. What inspires you to write? I am inspired by the need to reach the masses with a message, especially Women. Women are nurtures and I don’t think we truly know what that means besides cooking, cleaning, disciplining and organizing. There is a spiritual connection to that I think Women need to be reminded of. What have you written? (Include short stories, poems, blog, etc.) I have written poems that I have not published and recently my first Christian Fiction Novel, Sister Nadeen’s WAYS. Do you have a favorite writer and what is your favorite book to read outside the Bible? I would have to say I am my favorite Writer because I enjoy looking back at what God has allowed me to put on paper and in print. I think I have What was your last book about? My only book right now is Sister Nadeen’s WAYS and it is basically about a Woman who is so wrapped up in her church image and being available for the Pastor and Ministries that she neglects her household which is her first ministry but she doesn’t realize that. She is a controlling woman and very abusive verbally, mentally, emotionally and physically. She has taken advantage of her husband’s shortfalls to take up wearing the pants, belt and the drawers in her household. She has three daughters that are being negatively effected by what she is doing behind closed doors and they are acting out their own issues yet she doesn’t realize that either. Her WAYS have been passed down by her mother whom she has a tense relationship with . Her mother is the only person she backs down for. Where do you see yourself as an author in 5 years? As an Author in 5 years I see myself promoting the entire WAYS Trilogy and hosting the conference that will come from the book platform. What advice would you give to an aspiring writer? The advice I would give an aspiring writer is to write. Write it all down on paper, do not be concerned initially about the order of the book just get it all out and once you get it all out then seek experienced contacts and resources to make a decision on how you want to get your book out to the public. Attend conferences and workshops that can help you gain the tools you need to be a successful and professional author. Do you think in today’s world of digital technology what’s going to happen to print? (Will it still be around or do you think it’s dying)? I think print will still be around for some time. Technology is not as reliable as the actual hard copy in the hand of the reader. Print may decrease a bit but I don’t believe it will completely diminish.

uthor Thelma B. Cousin, an ordained Prophetess, was born in Jackson, Mississippi and is the mother of three, RhaShun, LaShonda, and John Jr., of whom she loves dearly. She is also the proud grandmother of two beautiful grandchildren, Aubree Moriah and Ama’Re Mahkai. Thelma’s mission in life is to be all that God would have her to be as she continues to make herself available for His use as he places her before His people in Ministry or as an author through her writings, because it’s not about Thelma. It’s all about God and the souls that are won for Christ as she yields to God’s voice for her life. What made you want to become an author? God dealt with me strongly about becoming an author after attending my third WriteTheVision Writers Workshop and I knew at that moment that I wanted to become an author. So, I stepped out on faith and wrote my first book which was published in April of 2017. Have you always wanted to become a writer? No, I have not always wanted to become a writer, but I do remember that I loved to read books as a young girl. Reading was always a major part of my life as a young girl and I would read for hours, because I loved it so much without realizing that I would one day become an author. What genre do you like most and what genre do you write? I would prefer the nonfiction genre, because I can write about my life experiences as encouraging words for others that are going through adversities in their own life and are about to lose faith in God. My first book, Prophetic Encouragement for Daily Living, is nonfiction and contains encouraging words for those faced with adversities. Were you good at English in school? Yes! English was my favorite subject throughout my school age years. What inspires you to write? My words of encouragement that comes from within my heart is what inspires me the most to write. This is such a motivation to me as an author and it helps me to remain focus on the plan of God for my life as He uses me to encourages others through my testimonials. What have you written? (Include short stories, poems, blog, etc.) Prophetic Encouragement for Daily Living is my first literary work. It is a collection of God’s words of encouragement spoken to me in some of the most difficult and darkest times of my life. These words encouraged me to hold on and not give up in the midst of my adversities. God instructed me to journal words of encouragements for those who would need it in their own wilderness seasons. Do you have a favorite writer and what is your favorite book to read outside the Bible? My favorite writer is John Eckhardt. One of my favorite books that I love to read outside the Bible is, Prophet Arise, written by John Eckhardt. Are you currently working on any books now? Yes, I am happy to say that I am currently working on my second book. What was your last book about? Prophetic Encouragement for Daily Living is full of God’s prophetic encouragements spoken to me by the Holy Spirit when I had to learn to trust God even when I wanted to give up. Prophetic Encouragement for Daily Living carries the anointing of God for those who have felt like giving up on life due to their hardships in life. God’s anointing on my life comes from the crushing of my marital issues, poverty, suicidal thoughts and attempts, discouragement, brokenness, and so much more. How much research do you do? I do quite a lot of research when it comes to scripture verses and the meanings of various words in my writings. Do you write daily, how much time to you spend on writing for just yourself and on your project? I try to write at least four times per week or more. I love my quiet times at night when everyone is asleep. I can hear God more clearly as He speaks to my spirit through His inspirations during these times. Are you a self-published author? No, I am not a self-publisher, but God has really been dealing with me concerning self-publishing in the future. How do you take criticism? There were times in my life when I didn’t take negative criticism very well. I would often become angry with those who was doing the criticizing. God taught me how to ignore any negativity that others spoke against me by believing in who God ordained me to be. It wasn’t easy, but I learned to encourage myself by the grace of God.
How can someone find or buy your book(s)? My book can be purchased at www.amazon.com. It is also available in Kindle form. Where do you see yourself as an author in 5 years? I can see my life as a successful author and entrepreneur in the next five years or less. What God has for my life is far greater than what my heart can ever imagine. This is my season of more than enough. Any other genre you want to write for? I would love to compose journals and letters from my previous journals spoken to me in my quiet times with God. I would also love to write more books based on my life’s testimonials as an encouragement to others. What advice would you give to an aspiring writer? My advice to any aspiring author would be, “you can do anything you set your mind to do by not giving up on your dreams as an aspiring author. Always thrive for greater even when and don’t let words of negativity from others stop you from achieving your goals as an author. Get up and write again. You can do this! God believes in you! Now, you believe in yourself.” Do you think in today’s world of digital technology what’s going to happen to print? (Will it still be around or do you think it’s dying)? I think that with the way technology is evolving, print will be a thing of the past, because our younger generation prefers digital technology through MacBook’s, tablets, and etc. over print more than ever as digital technology continues to advance.

uthor Mrs. Velma Bowman Cable. I am the Founder & CEO of I Have a Voice Ministries. I am also an Author of Jackson, Mississippi. My husband, Jeffrey J Cable, and I are approaching our 34th year of marriage. We are the proud parents of two sons, one daughter, and four beautiful and blessed grandchildren. I am the author of 2 newly released books, PURPOSE, The New Voice of Mississippi Authors, and I Do: Help me to forgive, can it be done? The storms of life didn’t break me but made me much stronger than before, and the Woman of God that I am today. Have you always wanted to become a writer? Yes, it has always been my dream as a youth to accomplish that goal of becoming an author. What genre do you like most and what genre do you write? My preference would be memoirs based on life experiences. I love to share my life experiences with others in hope that they would benefit from my testimonies to guide them with encouragement and motivation to stand strong and to not give up while enduring their storms. Were you good at English in school? No, English was not my favorite subject. That was my twin sister’s favorite subject (smiling). What inspires you to write? Life experiences is my motivation What have you written? (Include short stories, poems, blog, etc.) There are short stories and poems that are stored away when I was a youth that was written by me. I have had the privilege of writing poetry of encouragement for my family in the loss of our love ones homegoing celebration. I am the Coauthor of the book, Purpose The New Voice of Mississippi Authors. I am the author of my newly released book, I Do: Help me to forgive, can it be done? Do you have a favorite writer and what is your favorite book to read outside the Bible? Well to be honest, I can’t say that I have a favorite writer or book. At this moment, my schedule is consumed with theology online studies, and the bible is what I am devoted to along with my other text books. Are you currently working on any books now? Yes, I am.
What was your last book about? Families and relationship/marriages and long-time relationships pertaining to infidelity and how to forgive while in the mist of brokenness How do you take criticism? Criticism motivates me more in moving forward in accomplishing my goals, and more positive things in my life How can someone find or buy your book(s)? Any other genre you want to write for? Yes, probably a Christian romance novel that would encourage and teach individuals how to seek God first, so that God would prepare and provide that mate just for them. And for the marriages, to teach and guide them in knowing how to regain the romance back into the marriage. What advice would you give to an aspiring writer? I would say not to give up on their dreams. Not to receive any negativity from anyone, only positive things. To always remain motivated and encouraged in knowing that they were created to be successful in reaching their goals. With God all things are possible. Philippians 4:13 states, “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” Do you think in today’s world of digital technology what’s going to happen to print? (Will it still be around, or do you think it’s dying)? I think that technology is growing more advance each year. The younger generation would probably prefer technology over print. Society must adjust to change.
