■ Frankston MLA Paul Edbrooke has given a Parliamentary salute to Barb Godfrey. “Local Frankston resident Barb Godfrey was honoured this year by the President of TimorLeste for her work and unwavering commitment to the TimorLeste friendship group community, financially supporting and fundraising to build a small village school, financially supporting the employment of staff for that school and supplying technology and a kindergarten class and staff in recent years,” Mr Edbrooke said. “Barb Godfrey is no stranger to anyone in Frankston. She is known for her immense generosity and her love of community, and it is no surprise that this has been noticed across the globe. Congratulations to the wonderful Barb. “While I am on the subject of Barb, I want to put in Hansard some of the history that Barb helped create many, many years ago when the Orwil Street Community House was on the chopping block. “It looked like, at that stage, council was going to bulldoze this facility, and Barb was one of the strong proponents for keeping this community house, which is still there today and still strong,” Mr Edbrooke said.

MP PRAISES LANKAN FEST

■ “It was a pleasure to represent the Minister for Multicultural Affairs at Lankan Fest 2025,” said Narre Warren South MLA Gary Maas. “The rainy weather did not stop many thousands attending the event, which was held at Crown Riverwalk. Now in its 10th year, Lankan Fest brings together the very best of Sri Lankan culture in a large festival to raise funds for children’s education in Sri Lanka and Australia,” Mr Maas said. “The event featured cultural performances, food stalls, music and artworks and a wonderful opportunity to celebrate and share Sri Lankan culture with the broader community. “It was good to be there with local, state and federal representatives, including the federal Member for Holt, Cassandra Fernando. “As an Australian born with Sri Lankan heritage, it was a personal privilege to attend and to connect with my cultural identity, and as a proud representative of Narre Warren South, home to one of our state’s largest Sri Lankan communities, I know how important events like this are,” Mr Maas told Parliament.

The trio donned elf costumes for the afternoon, bringing festive cheer, fun interactions with kids and plenty of lighthearted moments for the community. Lauren Phillips said, “Santa is in demand. So what we decided was, we got on to our friends in the North Pole and said, when would Santa be available because we need to do some Santa photos for our friends, our listeners.”

Clubhouse opens at Clyde North ■ Stockland officially opened its new $13 million clubhouse at the Halcyon Jardin land lease community in Clyde North last Saturday (Nov. 29) with a community open day to celebrate. Located in the heart of St Germain Central, the Clubhouse is the first of its kind in Melbourne’s south-east and sets a new benchmark for over-55s living. Residents can enjoy resort-style amenities including an indoor pool, outdoor spa, sauna, gym, pickleball courts, bowling green, dining room, bar, games room, library, and cinema. This milestone brings Stockland’s total investment in the south-east region to approximately $1.74 billion across three land lease communities and four masterplanned communities – reinforcing its long-term commitment to supporting population growth and the need for housing.
