■ Police are investigating a collision in Chelsea Heights on Monday night last week (Aug. 25) where a child sustained critical injuries. It is understood a white van was travelling west on Thames Promenade, near the intersection of Mulkarra Drive, when it struck a toddler about 9.10pm. The child was on a small balance bike using the pedestrian crossing, with a man who was walking. An off-duty police officer stopped to assist the child, who was then worked on by emergency services at the scene. The child was transported to hospital with serious injuries and remains in a critical condition. The man who was walking across the road was not injured. The male driver of the van stopped at the scene and was arrested. The 29-year-old Clyde man was interviewed and released pending further enquiries. Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives are working to establish the exact circumstances of the collision.

It is alleged they then damaged around 15 vehicles parked on the street. No one was inside the business or any of the cars at the time. Officers attended and arrested the trio at the scene. The 14-year-old boy and two 13-year-old boys, all from the Dandenong area, were taken into custody where they were to be interviewed.

■ Costco is about to open a $74 million warehouse and fuel station in Pakenham. The corner site on Greenhills and Koo Wee Rup Rds is set to open in 2027. The retail giant has a $118m Ardeer flagship and other suburban centres at Ringwood, Epping and Moorabbin. Colliers Melbourne East national director Gordon Code was quoted to say that Costco’s decision to add Pakenham to its network was a clear sign of the retailer’s ambitious growth strategy. “Costco is a destination retailer,” Mr Code said. “People drive for miles, and the moment they commit to a site the phone runs hot from businesses wanting to be beside them. “Costco looked at multiple sites, but this one wins hands down, direct freeway access and even a natural gas connection, which is critical when you’re baking, roasting and preparing food at Costco’s scale.” Businesses are keen o position themselves shoulder-to-shoulder with Costco.
