■ Casey households will begin receiving a new purple-lidded glass recycling bin from September. The City of Casey is moving into the final stages of the State Government's fourbin waste and recycling reforms. An 80-litre glass-only bin will be delivered to households across Casey between September 7 and November. A Council representative said this will help Casey meet State Government requirements to standardise household waste and recycling services across the state. Food and garden organics (FOGO) bins are also now part of Casey’s standard waste service, with households that do not already have a FOGO bin set to receive one from late November. Glass bottles and jars of any colour that have contained food or drink can go in the bin. Simply rinse them and remove the lids before placing them in the bin. The glass bin will be collected every four weeks starting in November, on the same day as every second FOGO collection. Glass will no longer be accepted in the yellow-lidded recycling bin.

■ A 26-year-old motorcyclist who had only held his learner’s permit for several months was clockedg at nearly 100-kmh over the speed limit at Longwarry North on Friday morning (Aug. 28). Cardinia Highway Patrol members were on patrol when a blue motorcycle that appeared to be travelling well over the speed limit along the Princes Highway drew their attention about 11.50am. Officers will allege that as the rider continued onto Princes Way, they were able to take a speed reading of 171-kmh in an 80km/h zone. They were able to intercept the motorcyclist who revealed he only had a learner’s permit. The Drouin man is expected to be charged by summons with exceeding the speed limit by 45-kmh or more and speed dangerous. He will also have to pay $1291 to have his bike released from the impound yard in 30 days.
■ Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives are investigating after a woman was struck by a car in Noble Park early on Saturday morning (Aug. 29). It is believed a man was approached by a group of people, including the woman, in a car park of an aquatic centre on Memorial Drive about 2.50am. A verbal confrontation occurred, and the man subsequently locked himself inside his white Nissan Patrol. It is alleged the group surrounded and damaged the vehicle before the man attempted to flee, striking the woman with his car in the process. The 24-year-old Bentleigh woman was transported to hospital by witnesses with life-threatening injuries. The driver, a 30-year-old man of no fixed address, contacted Triple Zero (000) immediately and drove to Dandenong Police Station. The man has been spoken to by investigators and released pending further investigation. Detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident and are appealing for anyone who may have information to come forward.
