■ The permanent Mental Health and Wellbeing Local in Lilydale centre has officially opened.. Mental Health Minister Ingrid Stitt celebrated the opening of the new Lilydale Local site – developed with people with lived and living experience. The Local will support the Yarra Ranges community with a range of clinical and wellbeing mental health supports via in-person walk-ins and appointments, telehealth and outreach services – all free of charge with no Medicare card or GP referral required. Acting as a ‘front door’ to the mental health system, Victoria’s network of Locals provide support and treatment for adults experiencing mental illness or psychological distress, including co-occurring substance use or addiction. Services at the Locals are delivered by a multidisciplinary team of experienced mental health professionals, wellbeing staff and peer support workers, and is designed to meet the diverse needs of the community. The Mental Health and Wellbeing Local in Lilydale is led by Wellways Australia in partnership with Eastern Health, Access Health and Community and Oonah Aboriginal Health and Community Services. A flagship reform of the Royal Commission into Victoria’s Mental Health System, the Locals have already supported close to 28,000 Victorians to access free, community-based care.

■ Six new pieces have been acquired for Maroondah Council’s permanent art collection. This comes as the 2025 Mayoral Art Exhibition is now open at Maroondah Federation Estate Gallery. The Mayoral Art Exhibition is a yearly fundraiser for the Bone Marrow Donor Institute (now part of the Fight Cancer Foundation) and is supported by Maroondah City Council and Community Bank Ringwood East and Croydon. This year’s theme is Time. Artists have responded to the past, present, future and the passage of time through a range of mediums, including painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, collage and photography. Each year, the Mayor selects a small number of works to be acquired for thde Council’s Maroondah Art Collection. Mayor of Maroondah, Cr Kylie Spears, thanked artists for their entries. “Thank you to all of the artists who submitted entries for this year’s Mayoral Art Exhibition. There is a fabulous range of styles, interpretations and approaches on display, thanks to so many artists from our diverse community sharing their talents. “With a record-breaking 200 artworks exhibited in the gallery and the foyer this year, it was quite a challenge selecting only a small number of acquisitions,” Cr Spears said. She thanked Alan Somers for dedicating over 30 years of voluntary work to this cause.
