LOCAL ROADS UNSAFE: MAYOR TELLS HORNE
■ Eastern suburbs roads, the maintenance of which is the responsibility of the State Government, are unsafe, Maroondah Mayor Cr Kylie Spears has told Roads Minister Melissa Horne. “Resident concerns have increased in the past couple of years in relation to the unsafe and unsightly condition of DTP-managed arterial roads in Maroondah,” Cr Spears said. “Residents are frustrated by the lack of regular maintenance on arterial roads and have reported an increase in potholes and uneven surfaces that have not been rectified by DTP in a timely manner. “These road issues create a heightened risk for vehicle damage or major collision, particularly on high-speed roads, like most arterial roads in Maroondah.” Maroondah Council is continuing to advocate to the State Government for the repair of unsafe and unsightly major roads and median strips managed by DTP. In writing to Ms Horne, Maroondah Council has called for the immediate need for regular and ongoing arterial road maintenance to address safety risks and fire hazards.

■ Monash City Council has told local circket clubs that they need to vacate grounds by the start of March 2026 in the upcoming summer season. The ban will make midweek training difficult for clubs playing in finals. Club officials point out that Eastern Cricket finals were still being played on the March 1516 weekend earlier this year. The Grand Finals in the neighbouring Ringwood District Cricket Association were played on the March 22-23 weekend. “Monash Council allocates sports grounds for a five month season, leaving March and September for essential works to prepare the grounds for the next season,”: said a statement attributed to Mayor Cr Paul Klisaris. “In recent years both winter and summer sports associations have extended their fixtures, leaving little time for season changeover. “Some cricket clubs with turf pitches have requested to be able to play until the end of March in the upcoming summer season. We are considering these requests to extend usage where circumstances allow.
