COUNCILS CALL ON GOVT FOR RECYCLING REVERSE
■ Maroondah City Council is one of 29 Victorian Councils actively advocating to the State Government to postpone the mandatory implementation to provide a glass only bin service to households. Currently, the Allan Government requires all local governments to implement this service by 1 July 2027. The group of Councils advocating for this delay include a range of Victorian Councils from across metropolitan and regional areas, all of which are concerned about the cost implications the glass-only bin service will have on their community.

■ Blackburn man George ‘Max’ Caldwell is looking firward to his 100th birthday on April 13. Bornin 1925 in Echuca, Max enlisted in the Australian Army on May 13, 1943, and was posted to 2/14 Australian Infantry Battalion. He was involved in operations against the Japanese at Balikpapan, Borneo, toward the end of the war. Max was discharged on November 8, 1946, at the rank of Corporal. He has stayed connect to his unit as a member of the 2/14th Infantry Battalion Association. Before and after the war, Max worked at a life insurance company, City Mutual. He began in the mail room, then practiced accountancy and retired as the deputy manager. Max played golf and is also a keen supporter of Collingwood. He still watches Collingwood games live on television. He also enjoys socialising with the other residents of his aged care community. He attributes his longevity to working hard and going for a morning run every day before work. Max will celebrate his birthday with an afternoon tea at his home, attended by his family and friends from the Masonic Lodge and the 2/14 Infantry Battalion Association. He is looking forward to his birthday.
