● Box Hill MLA Paul Hamer has been appointed as a Multi-Minister. ■ Box Hill MLA Paul Hamer has been promoted to Minister for Local Government Minister, as well as contuning his work as Minister for Youth Justice and Minister for Corrections. His appointment came as Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan reshuffled the State Cabinet ahead of the November election. Eastern Victoria MLC Harriet Shing has assumed the role of Health Minister.

Nearby, in north- east Melbourne, Eltham MLA Vicki Ward will continue to serve as Minister for Emergency Services, as well as Minister for Natural Disaster Recovery. She will add Minister for Creative Industries, as we continue to back the industry, support local talent and increase access to culture. This is in addition to her responsibilities as the Minister for Equality.

Pedestrian, 65, dies 2M, 3M, 4M BIN HIRE

■ Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives are investigating after a pedestrian was fatally struck by a car in Alexandra yesterday afternoon (Apr. 28). Emergency services were called to reports of the collision at the intersection of Downey and Grant Sts just before 12.30pm. The pedestrian, a 65year-old Alexandra woman, was treated by paramedics but died at the scene. The driver, a 77-year-old Alexandra man, was not injured. He was interviewed and released pending further enquiries.

■ Three teenagers have been charged after a stabbing in Oakleigh. Detectives from the Eastern Region Crime Squad executed three search warrants across Melbourne’s eastern and south-eastern suburbs and arrested three boys. The trio, a 17-year-old from the Stonnington area, a 14-year-old from the Greater Dandenong area and a 17year-old from the Knox area, were charged with a range of offences including: ■ intentionally causing serious injury in circumstances of gross violence ■ intentionally causing serious injury ■ recklessly causing serious injury ■ violent disorder ■ affray ■ assault with a weapon ■ common law assault The charges follow an incident outside a business at Eaton Mall about 7.45pm on Friday, April 17. A group of approximately 12 people were seated when they were allegedly approached by a large group wearing balaclavas, with some carrying machetes. An 18-year-old Malvern East man was stabbed and taken to hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries. A 16-year-old male was also assaulted but sustained no physical injuries. Police will allege the parties involved in the incident are known to each other. The charged trio were to appear before a children’s court last Thursday afternoon (Apr. 23) where police applied for remand. The boys from the Stonnington and Greater Dandenong areas have also been charged with committing an indictable offence while on bail, as well as affray-related offences for an incident in Oakleigh on April 8. The investigation remains ongoing, with further arrests expected. Proactive patrols will also continue in the Oakleigh area.
