■ Maroondah’s post-war heritage will be preserved, following the approval and gazettal of a Planning Scheme amendment. The amendment introduces new heritage protections for buildings and places that reflect Maroondah’s rapid growth and transformation after World War II. Maroondah Mayor, Cr Kylie Spears, said the amendment was a significant milestone. “Although older heritage places have long been recognised as important, this amendment means places that are significant to Maroondah’s post-World War II development and character are now legally recognised and protected,” Cr Spears said. “This is an important milestone, as it will help protect types of architecture and development that have often been overlooked in heritage studies across other Victorian municipalities. “The new protections also support a stronger sense of place in our neighbourhoods, while ensuring Maroondah’s identity and evolving story continue to be reflected in our built environment.”
