Sexual assault

■ Professional Standards Command detectives have charged a senior constable following an internal investigation. The 51-year-old man, from Transit and Public Safety Command, has been charged with five counts of sexual assault against two women. The incidents were alleged to have occurred in September last year while the officer, who was upgraded to sergeant at the time, was off-duty. He will appear at court at a later date.

Fatal shooting

■ Homicide Squad detectives are investigating a fatal drive-by shooting in Hampton Park on Saturday morning (Apr. 27). A man was located in a vehicle on Bride Avenue with a gunshot wound about 12.30am. The 30-year-old Cranbourne man died at the scene. Police were told a Ford Ranger Utility was seen driving away from the area. A burnt out vehicle was located at Sweeney Reserve in Berwick just after 2.30am and Police are yet to determine if it is linked to the investigation. Detectives were on-scene investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

C. Downs spree

■ Police have arrested two men after a crime spree in Carrum Downs and Frankston on Thursday night (Apr. 25). It is understood a group inside an allegedly stolen Mini Cooper attended a petrol station on McMahons Rd, Frankston, and stole petrol about 10.30pm. It is alleged the same group were involved in a theft and an assault at a restaurant on Halls Rd, Carrum Downs, about 11pm. Police spotted the Mini Cooper on Cranbourne-Frankston Rd before it entered a car park on Cranbourne Rd, Frankston, about midnight. Officers deployed stop sticks however the car avoided the device and continued onto Karingal Drive. A police car attempted to intercept the Mini Cooper on Karingal Drive before ittravelled on the wrong side of the road. With Police no longer following the car, it travelled along Cranbourne-Frankston Rd before it collided head on with a Hyundai sedan. The female Hyundai driver was transported to hospital for assessment. Police swiftly arrested a 23-year-old Frankston man and a 24-year-old Morwell man nearby about 12.30am. They are assisting Police with their enquiries.

FIREARMS SEIZED AT SOUTHBANK

■ Members from the Police VIPER Taskforce have charged a woman and seized firearms as part of an ongoing investigation. A search warrant was executed at a residential address in Southbank on Thursday (Apr. 25). It is alleged unloaded handgun, an imitation firearm and three knives were located inside the residence, alongside a small quantity of what appears to be cocaine. The 25-year-old Southbank woman was arrested and charged with possess prohibited weapon (x3) and possess imitation firearm. She was bailed to appear at the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on June 27. The VIPER Taskforce is a tactical and investigative unit based within Crime Command focused on preventing, detecting, deterring, disrupting and dismantling the criminal activities of groups such as outlaw motorcycle gangs, organised crime networks and street gangs.

The taskforce, which commenced in July 2022, supports the work of specialist investigation units and regional police by providing further resources to assist with investigation tactics and enforcement actions. ARSON PROBE AT DOCKLANDS SHOP

■ Detectives from VIPER Taskforce are appealing for information as part of their investigation into an incident where two people attempted to light a fire at a Docklands gelateria. It is believed two males forced their way into the Star Crescent business about 5am on Wednesday, January 17. After smashing the glass door, the pair poured accelerant from a jerry can on the floor and serving bench then attempted to light the liquid. Despite a number of attempts, the liquid failed to ignite and the pair ran from the store. It is believed they then left the area with a third person in a distinctive gold Hyundai So-

Police are treating the incident as targeted, however the exact motivation for the attempted fire remains unclear. Detectives are also looking at whether there is a connection between this incident and any other fires in the area. Detectives are also keen to speak to anyone who has information about the current whereabouts of the gold Hyundai and are asking members of the public to keep a look out for it.
