GREENS EXPAND

■ Former Yarra Council Mayor Gabrielle de Vietri has won the Richmond seat in State Parliament. The Greens politician takes over from long-time Labor MLA Richard Wynne. The Greens will also be represented in the Legislative Assembly by Ellen Sandell (Melbourne) and Dr Tim Read (Brunswick). Premier Daniel Andrews swept back into power with a recordbreaking fourth term, defeating independent Ian Cook and nine other challengers for the seat of Mulgrave. As The Local Paper went to press, the Victorian Eloectoral Commission advised that re-counting was in progress. In two party preferred candidate voting, the Albert Park seat sees Nina Taylor (ALP) with 23,693 votes (60.87 per cent) ahead of Lauren Shearson (Liberal) with 15,230 votes (39.13 per cent). In Ashwood, ALP candidate Matt Fregon is on 25,012 votes (56.39 pwer cent) against Asher Judah (lib.) on 19,340 votes (43.61 per cent). The Bentleigh district re-elected Nick Staikos (ALP) with 25, 973 votes (58.00 per cent) against Debbie Taylor-Haynes with 18,807 votes (42.00 per cent).

● Gabrielle de Vietri James Newbury (Lib.) returns to represent Brighton with 22,120 votes (54.35 per cent), defeating former Port Phillip Mayor Louise Crawford (ALP) on 18,579 (45.65 per cent). Sonya Kilkenny (ALP) has been returned to the Carrum district after attracting 24,798 votes (59.77 per cent), against Bec Buchanan (Lib.) on 16,694 votes (40.23 per cent). After early fears that he may lose the Caulfield seat, David

Southwick (Lib.) appears victorious after a tally of 21,135 votes (52.07 per cent) against Lior Harel (ALP) on 19,454 (47.93 per cent). Meng Heang Tek (ALP) is returned to Clarinda with a count of 24,438 (60.33 per cent) against Anthony Richardson (Lib.) on 16,066 (39.67 per cent). After a neck-and-neck struggle, John Pesutto (Lib.) takes the Hawthorn seat with 22,487 votes (51.44 per cent), defeating independent Melissa Lowe on 21,232 (48.56 per cent). Pesutto replaces John Kennedy (ALP). The departure of Tim Smith (Lib.) as Kew MLA following a drink-drive offence, resulted in Jess Wilson (Lib.) gaining the seat with 23,342 botes (53.72 per cent), beating independent Sophie Torney on 20,113 (46.28% per cent). The safe Liberal seat of Malvern is back in the hands of Michael O’Brien on 22,956 (58.45 per cent) against Darren Natale (ALP) with 16320 votes (41.55 per cent). Mordialloc will once again be represented by Tim Richardson (ALP) on 25,500 votes (57.95 per cent), against Phillip Pease (Lib.) on 18,503 (42.05 per cent). Steve Dimopoulos was returned

Sam Hibbins continued the Greens inner-city domnination in Prahran with 24,354 votes (62.36 per cent). Brad Rowswell (Lib.) tallied 22,321 votes (55.17 per cent) against Bettina Prescott (ALP) on 18,140 (44.83 per cent). Upper House seat votes are stil being counted.
