■ The Libs are using the Suburban Rail Loop as a rallying point, but failing to convert their idea of the SRL billions in funding to hospitals. The ambulance and hospital crisis is a political gift to the Libs, as are the many post-COVID problems, but the Coalition performance can only be described as lightweight. The Suburban Rail Loop argument chiefly refers to the south-eastern suburbs. The SRL won’t go near other regions for upto-decades, and the Loop has almost no relevance to regional and rural voters. The Libs would be ill-advised to put all their political eggs in that basket.

The film spans nineteen years and shows glimpses of a young girl who whilst assigned male at birth always knew she was female. It is primarily a film about the ability to have control of your own decisions. particularly when pertaining to medical or health related issues. The very fact that Stone was central in the process of this film as both creative producer and main subject highlighted the importance in decision making when it comes to sharing one's own story.

Western Australian author Alice Nelson has just released her new novel, Faithless, which explores some new territory on the subject.Described as an intense and passionate love story, it’s an honest look at how us humans twist our reality to sustain the idea of connection.Ourprotagonist Cressida is a writer, and ‘the other woman’ in this tale, and we journey with her to learn what she has sacrificed, who she has hurt, and how she has deceived both herself and others in pursuit of love.

Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response or ASMR (as it’s widely known) is the term used to describe the gentle brain tingles people get when someone speaks in a soft voice or hears pages turning, plastic crinkling, or a cat purring ... among many other triggers.

This was very much a collaboration with many artists working together to bring what was a terrific night of drama, music, mystery and mayhem.

Australian opera goers and curious new audience members have a final chance to preview Melbourne O pera’s Ring via a special Sunday performance of Siegfried in Concert.

Performances are outstanding, and production values are stunning. After Yang may have turned up in cinemas last April without much fanfare, but hopefully being available on a digital platform will garner it a much larger audience, and will definitely be one of my favourite films for 2022.

Ring Cycle in Melb.

The concert features the 90-piece Melbourne Opera Orchestra, and directly follows Wagner specialist conductor Negus’s highly successful productions of Die Walku¨re with the English National Opera at London’s famed Colosseum , and at his famous Longborough Festival Opera.

The plot is understood to have inspired Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings, and the score includes highlights such as Siegfried’s Rhine Journey and Funeral March, Wotan’s Farewell and the infamous Ride of the Valkyries, known to modern audiences for its memorable use in iconic films such as Apocalypse Now

that will lead the two down a unique, but dangerous, path. Though the specific plotting is different, the narrative arc of both films is generally the same, but where the 2011 version, The Caller (**), failed to capitalise on what is a terrific premise (due to clumsy writing, dull direction and poor performances), the 2020 incarnation is a much smarter beast, pushing both set-up and possibilities to the absolute limit. The first half in particular is ingeniously plotted, and although it stumbles a little by allowing the race-against-the-clock aspect to overshadow the intricate plot turns in the second, there is still plenty to admire and enjoy (imagine a darker mix of the romantic mega-hit Il Mare (2000) and The Phone (2015)). Debutant writer/director Lee Chung-hyun shows incredible confidence and skill in executing this tale, especially when it all could have easily fallen on its face early on. Lee is also backed up by a firstrate technical crew. The performances by both Park (#Alive) and Jun (Burning) are superb, and without their sterling work, the film wouldn’t have gripped as much as it does. Where the original filmmakers seemed afraid to fully explore the unusual premise they had concocted, those at the helm of this remake on the other hand have been fully prepared to cut loose, resulting in a clever, top-shelf thriller that should keep viewers on the edge of their seat.

RATING - ****

Siegfried is the third opera in Richard Wagner’s Ring Cycle, one of the biggest productions in all the performing arts and the greatest challenge for any opera company.

Though its premise may sound like a very grim night out at the movies, Nowhere Special is an unexpected treat, carefully balancing its subject matter so that it doesn’t become overly mawkish, or blatantly downbeat. John (James Norton) is a window cleaner in his mid 30’s, who only has a few months to live after being diagnosedwith cancer. As he attempts to cope with his own mortality, John begins a quest to try and find his four year-old son Michael (Daiel Lamont) a suitable adoptive family, a task proving harder than expected. Writer/ director Uberto Pasolini (who helmed the similarly somber 2013 drama, Still Life, with Eddie Marsan), keeps John and Michael’s predicament naturalistic and low-key, wanting to focus on the small moments between father and son, thankfully avoiding melodrama or manipulative sentiment. Performances are terrific across the board, but Norton and youngLamont are superb. A quietly moving experience that deserves to be seen.

It’s not often that a remake improves on its original source, but The Call does just that, reformatting the material to entertaining, fullblooded effect.

The company began tackling the Ring Cycle in 2021, staging the first two of the four Ring operas in full over two years, to resounding critical and public acclaim.

Jesse’s mother, Scarlett Lewis, spoke to Alex Jones at the trial: “Jesse was real. I am a real mom,” she said. “My son existed. I am not deep state, I know you know that and yet you’re going to leave this courthouse and say it again on your show.”The jury decided Jones had to pay Jesse’s parents $4.11 million dollars in compensatory damages. It could have been closer to the $150 million they were asking for. Jones faces a similar case in Connecticut.

■ A gang riot inside a border prison that left two inmates dead quickly spread to the streets of Ciudad Juarez where alleged gang members killed nine more people, including four employees of a radio station, security officials said. The surge in violence recalled a far deadlier period in Juarez more than a decade earlier. Mexico’s powerful drug cartels commonly use local gangs to defend their territory and carryout their vendettas. The federal government’s security undersecretary, Ricardo Mejía Berdeja, said the violence started inside the state prison when members of the Mexicles gang attacked members of the rival Chapos. Two inmates were killed and 20 injured.

■ Western Europe has done more to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions over the past three decades than any other region in the world. It has vastly expanded solar and wind power. It has introduced carbon taxes and other policies to increase the cost of dirty energy. In all, the European Union has cut its greenhouse gas emissions by about 30 per cent since 1990, much more than the US, Canada, Japan, Australia or other affluent countries. But Europe’s clean-energy progress has not protected the continent from the growing ravages of global warming. “That’s the problem with CO2,” referring to carbon dioxide, the primary greenhouse gas. “It doesn’t respect borders.” Britain experienced its hottest temperatures on record, around 104 degrees Fahrenheit. The heat wave is especially problematic because much of Britain is not designed to withstand high temperatures; the normal average high on a July day in London is in the low to mid-70s. Many British homes not only lack air-conditioning but are built with materials that retain heat. Most parts of the London subway system lack air-conditioning, as well. One airport had to halt flights for hours after the heat damaged a runway. To keep the aging Hammersmith Bridge from collapsing, workers wrapped parts of it in foil to prevent cracks from expanding. In Paris, the temperature also exceeded 104 degrees.
