FLOOD PROBLEMS AT KENSINGTON BANKS
■ Greens MLC Sarah Mansfield says that more 900 homes in the Kensington Banks area are a flood risk following remodelling by Melbourne Water. Ms Mansfield says this has resulted in financial burden and risk for residents who purchased homes in good faith, based on government advice about flood risk. “Kensington Banks, in the inner west of Melbourne, is a relatively new housing estate; homes are only between 10 and 25 years old. “The area includes a thousand homes, and many people know it as the old stock route. Kensington Banks was developed as a joint venture between the State Government, the City of Melbourne and the developer Urban Pacific. “I understand the Federal Government was also involved in funding the development and associated flood mitigation works at the time. “At the time of development and right up until April of this year residents were told by government agencies that all their homes were above the flood zone. “People moved into this area and bought their homes and took out big mortgages, reassured by this advice. Yet in April this year residents woke up to find out Melbourne Water had remodelled the flood zone and all their homes were now in the highrisk flood zone,” Ms Mansfield told State Parliament.

■ Merri-bek Council, led by Mayor Cr Adam Pulford, has been notified of a cyber security incident involving OracleCMS, a supplier which supports the municipality in taking calls made to Merri-bek’s Customer Service Centre after hours and at other times. “The incident includes a data breach of customer contact details and records of calls handled by OracleCMS on Council’s behalf,” said a City of Merri-bek representative. “We take the privacy of our customers very seriously and we are taking action to address this issue. When OracleCMS takes calls on Council’s behalf, the calls may include the collection of personal details, including name, phone number, email or address. “We would like to reassure customers that the data did not include high risk personal details such as banking accounts, date of birth, licence or passport. “An assessment of data involved in the cyber security incident has been undertaken. “Council has contacted customers directly to provide advice and guidance to reduce the risk of any information being misused – as a precaution. Council has also engaged IDCARE, Australia’s national identity and cyber support community service, to support affected customers, free of charge,” the representative said.
