■ Winter in Williamstown will bring family-friendly entertainment to the historic waterfront location from Friday (June 28) to Sunday, July 14. The event includes a skating rink at Commonwealth Reserve – with some of the best views of Melbourne as the backdrop – nightly projections, and music and family fun on Fridays and Saturdays. Throughout Commonwealth Reserve and Nelson Place, there will be plenty of winter fun for all ages. ■ Lace up the skates and glide across the synthetic ice rink. This low-cost activity (tickets $5; kids under 13, $1) will be open daily from 12pm. Bookings are essential. ■ Witness beautiful light displays that will
transform three landmark buildings in Nelson Place daily from 5pm. ■ On Friday and Saturday nights from 5pm, be captivated by roving light installations including the HMAS Castlemaine and other locations around Commonwealth Reserve, along with DJs and more, all family-friendly and free. All parking will be free in Hobsons Bay for the event. Cr Matt Tyler, Mayor of Hobsons Bay, said: “Williamstown is such a beautiful place at any time of year, but I can’t wait to see it transformed this winter. This is going to be an incredible low-cost, family-friendly event these school holidays. There’s so much to do in Williamstown, from great places to eat and drink and plenty of historic places to visit.”
$263m BUDGET FOR BRIMBANK ■ Brimbank Council, led by Mayor Cr Ranka Rasic, says that it will deliver 81 actions that respond to priorities as part of its 2024-25 Budget. “The initiatives include activities to strengthen community connections, foster mental and physical health, reduce the impacts of climate change and contribute to the overall liveability of our city,” said a Council representative. “Council will invest $263.3 million into operations, to deliver 76 diverse services for our community ranging from arts and culture, and maternal and child health, to statutory planning and urban design. “This includes spending an increased amount of $17.6 million on parks and trees, $25.6 million on waste services and $13.9 million for Libraries, Arts and Culture and our Neighbourhood Houses and Community Centres. “An investment of $58.7 million will be made into the capital works program in 2024/ 2025. Highlights include: ■ $27.9 million on roads and drainage upgrades ■ $5.2 million towards playgrounds, parks and gardens ■ $2.1 million for walking and cycling paths to connect our city ■ $18.8 million towards improvements to community facilities, including sports and early learning facilities
