9 ARRESTS AS $1M DRUGS SEIZED

■ FAWKNER Divisional Response Unit detectives have arrested nine people and seized over $1 million worth of drugs and firearms as part of an extensive investigation into drug manufacturing in Melbourne.

Detectives executed 12 search warrants over the last four weeks, with the final two executed on Tuesday last week (Mar. 28). Search warrants were conducted across Airport West, Essendon, Keilor Downs, South Melbourne, and Sunshine. As a result of the warrants, Police seized: ■ Seven alleged stolen firearms ■ A commercial quantity of methyl amphetamine ■ Items used in the manufacturing of methyl amphetamine ■ 141 cannabis plants ■ Large quantity of stolen and fraudulent identification cards The estimated total street value of the drugs and firearms combined is over $1 million. Nine people were arrested, resulting in five people being charged and three expected to be charged on summons. One other person has been released pending further enquiries. Those charged include: ■ 31-year-old Airport West man and a 36year-old Sunshine North man have both been charged with trafficking a commercial quantity of cannabis and a drug of dependence, cultivate a commercial quantity of cannabis, possess 1.4 Butanediol and prescription drugs, possess a

traffickable quantity of firearms, possess a handgun, other firearm related offences, retain stolen goods, theft, and deal in the proceeds of crime. Both men have been remanded to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on June 5. ■ A 32-year-old Essendon man has been charged with trafficking commercial quantity of drugs, drug possession, deal in the proceeds of crime and commit an indictable offence while on bail. He has been remanded to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on June 5. ■ A 52-year-old South Melbourne woman has been charged with trafficking drug of dependence, deal in the proceeds of crime and contravene bail conditions. She has been bailed to appear at Broadmeadows Magistrates’ Court on May 24. ■ A 25-year-old Keilor Downs man has been charged with possess cannabis, possess methyl amphetamine, possess ammunition, and commit an indictable offence while on bail. He has been bailed to appear at Sunshine Magistrates’ Court on October 25. Another three people were arrested and are expected to be charged on summons with drug related offending.

A semi-automatic handgun and drugs of dependence were seized from one of the St Albans addresses. The charges follow an incident where a car was driven into the garage of a residence on Bayview Crescent in Hoppers Crossing about 8.45pm on Tuesday, March 21. A number of people from the car. A 29-year-old man, 23year-old man and 19-year-old man were all conveyed to hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.

A 19-year-old St Albans man was charged with affray. The duo were due to face Melbourne Magistrates’ Court last week. A 17-year-old Tarneit boy was interviewed and released pending further enquiries. With assistance from ND3 Offender Management, Wyndham Crime Investigation Unit and Divisional Response Unit, warrants were executed at three residential addresses in St Albans (2) and Tarneit on Wednesday.

INVASION CHARGES

■ Detectives from the Gang Crime Squad have charged two men following an incident in Hoppers Crossing where three men were injured. With the assistance of the Special Operations Group, Dog Squad and North West Metro Regional Crime Squad, three males were arrested on Wednesday afternoon (Mar. 29). A 21-year-old St Albans man was charged with affray and firearm and drug related offences.
