■ The State Government’s proposed Eltham Hospital has been py on hold, as part of the spening cuts in Treasurer Tim Pallas’s budget. Officially, the project - which was to be sited on Ryans Rd, near Diamond Creek - has been described as “under review”. A proposed hospital for Whittlesea is slated for the 2025-26 year. In Government-speak, the Budget Papers attempted to justify the decision to halt the Eltham Hospital project: “Further service planning will be undertaken ... to determine the optimal care models to best meet priority services in the siginificant recent health investments in Primary Priority Care Centres, and major investments to increase capacity at nearby health services.” Mr Pallas announced that $813 million would be spent to build the new emergency department and paediatric zone at the Northern Hospital at Epping.
