■ The Liberal Party continued to lose its grip on Eastern Suburbs politics at this year’s State Election held on November 26. Jackson Taylor (ALP) retained the redistributed seat of Bayswater, knocking out Nick Wakeling (Lib.) who had held the Ferntree Gully seat. On a two party preferred basis, and whilst votes are bneing re-counted, Mr Jackson had 23,028 votes (54.11 perf cent) against Mr Wakeling on 19,528 (45.89 per cent). In Ashwood, Matt Fregon (ALP) on 25,012 votes (56.39 per cent) bettered Asher Judah (Lib.) on 19,340 votes (43.61 per cent). At Box Hill, incumbent Paul Hamer (ALP) held the seat with 25,087 votes (56.77 per cent) against Nicole Ta-Ei Werner (Lib.) on 19,106 (43.23 per cent). The Bulleen contest saw State Opposition Leader Matthew Guy (Lib.) win 23,632 votes (56.05 per cent) against Ian Rogers (ALP) on 18,533 votes (43.95 per cent). There is already speculation that Mr Guy may step aside from the seat to make way for Upper House Liberal Matt Bach who may have leadership ambition. The Croydon seat was retained by David Hodgett (Lib.) on 23,301 votes (51.31 per cent) against Sorina Grasso (ALP) on 22.114 votes (48.69 per cent).

“The opportunity to lead this city in public service is amazing, it is a real honour,” Cr Diamante said. “I want Manningham to continue to be a great place to live, to learn and to grow. I want my children to want to live here, I want my children to want to raise their families here.” Cr Tomas Lightbody was elected Deputy Mayor.
