RINGWOOD EAST BOY STABBING CHARGE
■ Dandenong Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged four teenagers following an assault and stabbing in Springvale last week. It is alleged a large group of youths assaulted a man inside a shopping centre at the corner of Buckingham Avenue and Springvale Rd about 7.50pm on Sunday, July 28. The victim, a 48-year-old Springvale man, was taken to hospital with minor injuries. Emergency services were then called to a group of teenagers allegedly involved in a physical altercation with a 15-year-old Springvale boy at a park on Springvale Rd about 8.20pm. The victim sustained stab wounds and was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. A 16-year-old Ringwood East boy has been charged with violent disorder in relation to the incident at the shopping centre. A 17-year-old Chadstone boy and 15-yearold Berwick boy have both been charged with intentionally cause serious injury and affray in relation to the incident at the park. All three were remanded in custody to appear before a children’s court at a later date. A 14-year-old Mitcham boy has also been charged with intentionally cause serious injury and affray in relation to the incident at the park and will appear before a children’s court.

$8000 grants for seniors groups
■ Manningham Council is encouraging local seniors community groups and clubs to apply for a new Seniors Club Support Grants program, aimed at supporting initiatives that benefit and empower older people in Manningham. These grants provide up to $8000 in funding and can be used for a wide range of activities, including digital literacy programs, creative writing classes, or exercise sessions. Manningham Mayor, Cr Carli Lange, invites clubs and group to apply for a grant: “This is a chance for our dedicated seniors clubs and groups to receive support for new programs that boost the health and wellbeing of their members.”

■ Warranwood School Crossing Supervisor Mario Coppolino won the School Crossing Supervuisor of the Year Award for the Eastern region and was awarded a trophy for his achievements. Some 14 Maroondah City Council School Crossing Supervisors were nominated by the local community. The award categories were split into multiple regions across the state. Region 3 included Maroondah, Bayside, Glen Eira, Monash, Nillumbik, Port Phillip, Stonnington and Whitehorse Councils. Maroondah Mayor, Cr Kylie Spears, said the achievement is well-deserved. “Congratulations to Mario on this wonderful achievement,” Cr Spears said. “To be recognised across multiple Councils is a testament to the vital role that Mario plays in keeping the Warranwood Primary School community safe and also pays tribute to the impact that his work has across our community,” Cr Spears said. “I also extend my congratulations to all of our nominees and thank our 106 wonderful school crossing supervisors for their dedication.
