KNOX POLICE FLY TO QLD FOR ARREST ■ Knox detectives flew to Cairns in Far North Queensland to make an arrest of a man wanted for historical sex offences. A joint investigation with Victoria Police and Queensland Police Service led to the arrest of the wanted man. The man was arrested by virtue of a Victorian arrest warrant at a shopping centre in Cairns on Wednesday last week (June 21), following a nearly four-year investigation into his whereabouts. It is alleged the 53-year-old man failed to appear before the Victorian courts relating to more than 30 child sex and indecent assault offences between 2009 and 2012.

He appeared before Cairns Magistrates’ Court on Thursday (June 22) where his extradition to Victoria was granted. Detectives from Knox Sexual Offences and Child Abuse Investigation Team travelled to Cairns to escort the man back to Victoria. He is expected to appear before the County Court in Melbourne on Monday (June 26).
