■ Pakenham remained tight at press time with both major candidate David Farrelly (Lib.) and Emma Vulin (ALP) on 18,267 votes. Chris Crewther, 39, former Dunkley MHR from 2016-19, appears to have defeated Teal candidate Dr Kate Lardner to become the State Member for Mornington. Mr Crewther (Liberal) had 20,557 votes (50.6 per cent on a two-party preferred basis) against Dr Lardner (Independent) with 20,066 votes (49.4 per cent). Mr Crewther takes over the seat from retiring Mornington MLA David Morris. In the Hastings seat, Labor’s Paul Mercurio caused a surprise for some, with the likelihood that he has wrestled the Liberal seat from Briony Hutton. The seat had been held by Neale Burgess.
