Emerging writers meet ■ The Emerging Writers’ Festival (June 15-25), one of Australia’s most established and well-respected literary festivals, is returningtoGreaterDandenongLibraries. A series of workshops and talks will explore storytelling and give emerging writers the opportunity to develop professionally. All of the events are part of Libraries After Dark, a program designed for ages 16+ years. Liminal founder and editor Leah Jing McIntosh will be in conversation with fellow Liminal writers and editors tomorrow (8pm9pm, Thu., June 16)at Springvale Library to discuss how to create spaces for marginalised voices, the importance of working within your community, inter-community collaborations and advice for emerging writers. A live streamed workshop will be held by Zoom, from 7pm8.30pm on Thursday, June 23.

Open Space at Village ■ The Casey Safety Village in Cranbourne East has been transformed into a welcoming and accessible open space for the whole community to enjoy. Now open on the corner of Main St and Race Drive, works undertaken include: ■ the removal of existing buildings and cubby houses; ■ the lowering of the existing 1.8 metre fence to 0.9 metres; ■ landscape works including new grassing and concrete surfaces, and the planting of trees and shrubs; and ■ the installation of new seating. The existing miniature road circuit has been retained, which will provide a unique experience for park users. Kids can explore the park and follow the line markings while having fun on their bike or scooter. There are also barbecue facilities and plenty of parking nearby at Casey Complex.
