■ Local football and netball returned last Saturday - with no crowds allowed at most matches. AFL Outer East, Southern and Mornington Peninsula Nepean leagues were prevented from admitting spectators because of the State Government’s COVID-19 lockdown rules. The ban on crowds affected matches across the Mornington Peninsula, Frankston, Greater Dandenong, Casey, Cardinia and Yarra Ranges municipalities. Only AFL Outer East Division 2 matches at Yea and Broadford could admit spectators, as they were in rural municipalities. Spectators said it was absurd that they were not allowed to watch at Powelltown, 70km away from the ● Luke O’Reilly tries valiantly to keep possession of the ball in AFL Outer East Melbourne CBD. CAIDEN WINS $20,000 SKATE PARK PROJECT

■ FRANKSTON City Council has successfully applied for a $20,000 Federal Government grant to upgrade the Langwarrin Skate Park. Deputy Mayor Cr Nathan Conroy said the successful funding application is great news for young skaters including Caiden, who have lobbied for an upgrade of the park.

Cr Conroy met with Caiden at Langwarrin Skate Park earlier this year to discuss the project. The Council will contribute $60,000 for design and community consultation works to upgrade the park.
