Cleaning caravans and motorhomes is an essential part of keeping your valuable asset in pristine working order, looking smart, and ensuring you feel good too! But- it doesn’t need to be a chore.
Using quality products designed specifically for the job is key to ensuring an easy route to cleanliness perfection.
When washing down the exterior, pick the tools suitable for the job. Use only products that are specifically formulated for caravans and motorhomes, as many domestic cleaners can be abrasive, damaging or just not up to the job. We recommend a microfibre cloth, or microfibre mitt for all surfaces. There are many specialist products on the marketplace for getting to difficult-to-reach parts such as the roof, but an old broom and microfibre mitt is a great and cheap alternative to clean those difficult to reach places such as the centre of the roof! If you do buy a ‘specialist’ brush, avoid anything with hard edges that might accidentally dent or scratch panels as you use it- a full bristle head is always best.
Use two buckets with your chosen cleanser- preferably a shampoo with a hydrophobic wax finish is always a good idea to help prevent dirt and grime from sticking to the surface, which will also reduce the need for more frequent cleaning. Use one bucket for applying the cleaner, and one for rinsing your microfibre mitt, cloth, or sponge. Squeezing out the rinsed cloth away from both buckets will ensure any collected dirt will not be deposited back into either bucket, keeping the application bucket, and rinse bucket with fresh, clean product. A small soft bristle toothbrush can also be employed to tease out the dirt from those awkward nooks and crannies, and, as can often be seen on older models, mould and fungus creeping in behind the edges of your decals. Use a specialist ‘Black Streak Remover’, preferably one with a foaming action. This ensures the active ingredients are held against the stains to actively help remove them.
As a finishing touch, a great idea is to use a Waterless Wondershine. This will create a hydrophobic, anti-grime finish, to reduce dirt sticking and leave your pride and joy with a polished mirror finish. Less expensive than a ceramic coating, and something you can complete yourself.
Waterless Wondershine products are also fantastic for onsite top-up cleaning, where water supplies may be limited, or washing is not allowed.
Inside, furnishings will benefit from a quality foam shampoo to freshen up fabrics and leave your interior with a like-new freshness, without subjecting your cushions and curtains to excessive moisture.
And with that, if you’re towing a caravan, after giving your towing vehicle the same treatment, or in your sparkling clean Motorhome, you will arrive on-site looking a million dollars!

What to do if you need more payload
The main reason for wanting to uprate is so you can carry more load, better known as payload. Depending upon the make/ model of motorhome you have, uprating may be as simple as a converter's plate and letter of declaration, others may require actual physical changes, such as wheel and tyre and/or suspension modifications.
Things to bear in mind when uprating your vehicle
1 Uprating above 3500kg changes taxation class from PLG to PHGV so you save money.
2 Motorhomes are generally covered as a class 4 MOT regardless of weight. Certain smaller class 4 stations may have problems fitting in your size of motorhome, so check against size, not weight.
3 Under driving licence requirements for vehicles between 3500kg7500kg, you must either have passed your test prior to 1997 and hold a Cl category or if you passed after 1997 you will need to have taken your Cl test separately

4 **Important••. Uprating of the gross weight may only solve part of your problem. You should check individual axle loadings to ensure you do not exceed the stated axle weights.
5 Should you have roadside recovery, you may find going above 3500kg will increase your premium. This is due to the maximum towing limitation of over-run braked vehicles being 3500kg.

We would advise anyone owning or looking to purchase a motorhome to obtain an up-to-dote unladen weight ticket. This will provide a clear indication of the available payload
Unfortunately a manufacturer's stated payload or MIRO may not be accurate to the condition of your vehicle, and may not include such standard items as gos bottles, water, owning, satellite dish, bedding, etc.
