Bergen County is a wonderful place to live, work, and raise a family. Nearly one million residents live in one of our 70 unique and vibrant municipalities. MetLife Stadium, part of the MetLife Sports Complex in East Rutherford, NJ, is the home of the National Football League’s New York Jets and New York Football Giants. Each year, MetLife Stadium hosts 20 NFL games, which is twice as many as any other NFL Stadium. The stadium also hosts major concerts and entertainment events, college sporting events, international soccer matches, motor sports, and family shows. The stadium has seating for 82,500 fans with the capability for 90,000 for non-football major events, including 10,000 club seats and over 200 luxury suites. Technology takes center stage at MetLife Stadium. With over 2,200 HDTVs and four 30’x 118’ high-definition LED video boards in each corner of the stadium, fans are offered a great view of the game from any angle. Through a building-wide Wi-Fi system, the Stadium is able to provide unique fan experiences. Fans can enjoy proficient regional public transportation to the Stadium via NJ Transit’s rail line, which is connected to Amtrak’s Northern Corridor. Guests originating from New York’s Penn Station are dropped off at the front door of the Stadium in just 20 minutes. The addition of the rail line, which opened in 2009, coupled with newly configured parking lots, provides easier access routes and improved traffic patterns to and from the Stadium. Aside from sporting events and other major events, MetLife Stadium is a full-service entertainment facility with versatile spaces that are available year-round and can be tailored to any event. The Environment Center is open Monday through Friday from 8 am to 4 pm. The New Jersey Meadowlands Commission (NJMC) offers year-round educational programming that highlights the natural beauty of the Meadowlands region. Since 1969, the NJMC has overseen a remarkable transformation of the 30.4-square-mile Meadowlands District from an area scarred by illegal garbage dumping and neglect into a unique urban wetlands. Explore the vibrant salt marshes and wonders of the Meadowlands in our interactive learning center and throughout DeKortePark. The Meadowlands Environment Center also includes the Flyway Gallery and breathtaking views from the Marsh Pavilion. The Center is a handicapped-accessible facility. The William D. McDowell Observatory offers free public viewing, please check our website. The Observatory features a research-grade telescope with a 20-inch mirror housed under a six meter retractable dome. Used by 260 species of birds as a permanent home and migratory resting stop and enjoyed by millions of visitors each year, the preserved open space in the Meadowlands Liberty Region represent a one-of-a-kind ecotourism experience. No other destination in the world offers access to such an expansive and dynamic coastal wetland AND such an amazing array of culture, dining, shopping, entertainment and historical landmarks. Captain Bill of the Hackensack Riverkeeper organization will be happy to take you on a guided tour unlike anything you will have seen before. Sit back, relax and enjoy a ride into creeks teeming with fiddler crabs, diamondback terrapin turtles, and keep an eye out for the endangered Northern Harrier, Yellow-crowned Night Heron and Osprey. Or, feel free to explore the region on your own. Take the time to visit Liberty State Park and the Meadowlands Environment Center, a great place to learn about the natural environment of the Meadowlands.
