HOLIDAY SPIRIT

Up and at ‘em easily could be the motto for the Town of Minnedosa public works employees, as the job at hand is surely to be covered. Early on Friday, Nov. 15, tasks included getting the community into the festive spirit with the placement of large decorations on street lamp posts. The Christmas spirit is showcased in many forms including craft markets, music concerts, and Santa Claus parades.

Making a lasting impact

Valley Life Housing Group moving forward with seniors’ residence to help address housing needs in Minnedosa

The Valley Life Housing Group is forging ahead with plans for a transformative seniors’ residence in Minnedosa, aiming to provide a safe, accessible, and supportive environment for local seniors. This innovative project seeks to meet the increasing demand for independent and assisted living options while allowing seniors to “age in place” within their community.

“Our goal is to help seniors remain close to their families and friends, where they can stay connected and supported,” explained Gaylene Johnson, Valley Life Board Member. “This project is more than a building – it’s about creating a thriving community.”

The residence’s vision, firmly rooted in community and independence, reflects a commitment to enhancing quality of life. With essential services such as meals, light housekeeping, and maintenance-free living, the residence ensures that seniors can maintain their independence while accessing the care they need.

“With an aging population in

Minnedosa, the time to act is now,” Johnson emphasized. “This residence will allow families to keep their loved ones close, fostering invaluable relationships and community ties.”

The project emphasizes accessibility and comfort, incorporating universal design features into every unit. Hallways will be wide enough to accommodate wheelchairs and

scooters, while shared spaces like an indoor walking track and a recreational room promote physical activity and social interaction. The design process is still underway, but the Valley Life team is considering additional features such as petfriendly policies and assistive technologies to enhance residents’ life.
