The sea of red poppies forming a hand-stitched blanket that draped over Minnedosa’s war memorial created a special feel and warmth honouring our veterans leading up to Remembrance Day. The beautiful blanket, measuring 85 feet in length and adorned with over 8,000 handmade poppies, and thousands of dedicated ribbons was made faithfully by a group of Manitobans five years ago.

For Jenny Lin, music isn’t just something to stream on Spotify or an optional school activity – it’s a joyful daily practice of patience and quiet discipline.
A Grade 8 student at Tanner’s Crossing School in Minnedosa, Lin recently received the prestigious Royal Conservatory of Music Regional Gold Medal for Manitoba, an honour that recognizes “dedication, perseverance, and commitment to musical excellence.”
Lin, the daughter of Gordon Lin and Maggie Ye, owners of Sun Sun Chinese Restaurant on Main Street, has been studying piano for just three years. Yet her progress has already placed her among the top young pianists in the province.
“I was very happy and excited when I found out I won this award,” Lin said modestly. “It’s truly an honour to be chosen.”
When asked what advice she would give to other young people in Minnedosa who dream of learn-

ing an instrument, she replied, “I would encourage young people to learn an instrument even though the beginning is often difficult. The benefits and rewards are worth it in the end.”
