What a weekend in Minnedosa!
With a slew of events on – including marquee community events like Skate the Lake and Curling for a Cure – spirits were high, as were fundraising totals, as Minnedosa wrapped up one of its busiest weekends of the winter.
Curling for a Cure held another highly successful event from Feb. 13-15, raising $49,117 for the Candlelighters and Neepawa Cancer
Program.
The total brings the event’s seven-year fundraising impact to $183,728, a milestone organizers describe as both humbling and motivating. Attendance was the strongest yet, with steady crowds throughout the weekend supporting teams, sponsors, and volunteers.
Organizers credited the success to the many people who give their time year after year, including ice makers who kept the sheets in top condition, volunteers who ensured smooth operations, and Granite
Iron Grill for providing meals throughout the event. Community support, they noted, continues to be the backbone of the fundraiser.
Momentum is already carrying forward. The 2027 Curling for a Cure bonspiel (Feb. 12-14) is sold out a full year in advance for the second consecutive year, with teams now being accepted onto a waiting list.
Winners of this year’s Curling for a Cure event were Team RFM, comprised of Kathy Smith, Barry Coutts, Richard Betteridge, and

SKATE THE LAKE DELIVERS ANOTHER WINTER CLASSIC
Skate the Lake and Rock the Lake returned to Minnedosa Lake over Valentine’s weekend, once again transforming the ice into a hub of hockey, curling, and community connection.
The 2026 edition featured pond hockey alongside Rock the Lake stick curling, with strong participation across age groups and team divisions. Organizers noted particu-
larly good ice conditions and steady engagement from both players and spectators throughout the weekend. Behind the scenes, extensive preparation by volunteers and the Town of Minnedosa’s public works crew ensured safe, playable ice despite challenging winter conditions. Local businesses and sponsors also played a key role in supporting the event, helping maintain its reputation as both a winter celebration and a community fundraiser.
